Power brakes swap headache 69 bird
Hi guys. I have a leak between booster and master cylinder. Also leaks from distribution block front and back. These are the 9/16” fittings. (Already tight) I think the brake line kit is fine lines. All other parts are from Ames. Pumping the brakes builds up pressure then it seems to fountain out of front well in master. Front brakes getting fluid and seem bleedable but I have nothing to rear. Using lower hole in brake pedal to connect rod to master. Master came with two different length rods. I used the shorter one. I also have a leak between master and booster. Before I start swapping not so cheap resto parts from Ames got any tips? Everything is new from booster to calipers. Disc front drum rear.

You must mach the pushrod to the hole in master cylinder. there is quite bit of difference. If you put short rod in long hole master it could have bad pedal
When tightening lines, don't just tighten, seat the nut then loosen and tighten a bunch of times to make the flare seat into the seat. You will find that it stops a lot of leaks.

There should NEVER be a leak between the MC and the booster. If there is a fluid leak out the back of the MC, something is wrong with it. If you look at the booster face at the bottom of where the MC attaches, there is an indentation. It is there for a reason. To allow a failed MC from putting fluid into the booster which will ruin it. Get the MC issue fixed first, then go after the other chaos. Good luck with it.

Bought another master from Ames and sending back the old one. I like Ames they have been pretty solid so far.

Pictures of masters cylinders, one with deep hole is for long pushrod.
The one on right is shallow for short booster pushrod. left is deep for long pushrod.

A number of people make the booster pin depth tool, you can find them fairly inexpensively if you shop, or even make one.
Master Power Brakes makes one, and has an instructional vid coving the topic: https://www.mpbrakes.com/accessories...8F34FBF49B9855 They also have a not-bad FAQ section for diag/troubleshooting: https://info.mpbrakes.com/faqs True, if the master leaks into the booster, it will eat the diaphragm. Doesn't happen right away, it pops up later. I know OE had a hold off mounted on the booster, but honestly, you can omit it, they tend to be troublesome. .
