i bet we know some of the same families! but it has been a dozen years since i visited home. and probably twice that since i have lived there. i just remember the applegate chevy song from the commercials. my truck is a cali truck as far as i know. but there is something about those trucks and that time period that i will never shake loose.

Then one day she hit the Detroit station, couldn't believe she heard it at all! I listened to CKLW when I moved to the D back in 74, but that was when the FM switch was being flipped, so then it was W4, WABX, WRIF, then WLLZ. Dr Eric that is a hilarious story about Dich Purtan. I wonder if he remembers that race fondly?? I woke up this morning to the red carpet charity event at the Detroit international auto show on Fox 2 Detroit. What a great showcase of all the great products the Detroit automakers have today! They are showing the world that they are competitive. They really are doing a fantastic job of innovating their product line.

Detroit Radio
As I recall, CKLW and WXYZ(?) were quite popular, later came WKNR, I may even have a copy of their top twenty from back in the day. From WXYZ (across from Lawrence Tech?) Lee Allen and Joel Sebastian were dj's who spent time out at the Walled Lake Casino too. Do you remember when Lee Allen got busted (while drunk) for saying on the air: "If girls blouses got any lower and skirts got shorter they would have two more cheeks to powder and more hair to comb" ???? Later came WABX, the underground rock station for hippies. How often did they play "Time" by the Chambers Brothers?? I moved away in 1974.

Keener 13, CJOM underground rock from canada, SUNDAY-SUNDAY-SUNDAY....SIBLEY AT DIX...BE THERE.....growin up in the MC was pretty cool in the late 50's/60's. Must have spent, oh, I don't know, maybe two hundred bucks on sunoco 260 @ what, .26/gal?-cruisin gratiot to 8 mile then out to woodward, up to teds @ 17 mile rd. back to gratiot and all the burger stands filled with the muscle of the day in between, lookin for a race for the fun of it, fill up for six bucks, wash the car for a quarter and do it again. Thanks for the memories and to Sargent Johnson, from Roseville Police, we WERE racing and i beat him thats why i stopped and he took off back to mt clemens. Excessive noise;TIRES......yeah, right!

I remember CKLW, it was all i listened to growing up. Came in loud and clear in Sheffield Lake Ohio, and i wore out a 9 volt battery every week listening to it on my transistor radio. The only thing saving me was that i had a few "free battery" cards from Radio Shack, because i didn't have the money to buy batteries.
