Arrow TECH THREAD ARCHIVE - Pontiac Street

We've had a few requests here on the forums to start a Tech forum to archive some good informative tech threads that usually have plenty of pictures to help illustrate what's going on. I can't create a separate forum for them but I can start a thread and stick it at the top of this forum with links to different helpful tech threads.

Please reply here to this thread if you find a thread that was started to offer some good tech info and I'll add the tech thread that you've linked to the list.

I'll start it off:

Bart,

We REALLY DO need a "Library" location for Tech Threads somewhere easier to find that looking around like a chicken with his head still tucked under his wing!

Every time I look for these for someone, I have to look up your "Threads Started" info.

Charles

Default Pontiac 400 engine advice needed...

I am looking for some advice on the engine I am building for my car. First of all I am looking for a a smooth idle (it is a convertible) with as much torque as possible on a budget. I am looking for a recommendation as to which parts I should use from what I have to get a good low to mid range power. This car will be a cruiser not a race car.

The block I am using is a 1973 Pontiac 400 X5 block...stock bore. I have 2 sets of heads...

1)1973 4x heads- I believe 2.11 intake/1.66 exhaust and 98CC

2)1970 11 heads-I believe 1.96 intake/1.66 exhaust

And I have 2 intakes

1)Holly Street Dominator single plane

2) Pro Comp Air Gap dual plane

I will be using an eldelbrock 4 barrel carb

Again I want a smooth idle and a good low to mid response. The best fuel economy possible would be nice too.

Which combo should I use? What would be the best cam to use?

Thanks for any advise anyone has.

Bart, is there a process to download ( I did download & print like 15 years ago but...forgot); Downloadable as text (with images), so we can assemble our own Tech Ref books.
