Default '63 Rectangular Turn Signal Lens

So I was browsing articles today, and found a reprint of an October 1962 Popular Science issue with this picture:

Is this a prototype, or were some of these actually produced with clear rectangular front turn signals? I had never seen this before. I did a search and found one other picture that indicates possibly a Canadian vehicle?
