Removing woodgrain trim from 71 Lemans wagon
I found a 71 Lemans wagon for sale that once upon a time had the factory woodgrain trim on the sides of it. The owner had the woodgrain removed and painted the entire car the same color without the woodgrain.
I'm not a fan of woodgrain on the wagons anyway so happy to see it gone, but it does beg the question of whether not this would cause problems in the long run. I'm wondering how the trim along the edges of the woodgrain was originally attached. Not sure if there were holes in the body panels that fasteners attached to or the trim was attached in some other way like maybe spotweld studs or simply double sided tape. I'd be concerned if there were actual holes that were filled in. Do any of you know? Thanks Old Joe |

Wagons with wood grain in that era used a mixture of welded on studs and body holes for screws. Typically it was mostly weld studs but corners tended to sometimes have holes for corner trim. No sticky back stuff in that era.
