Default Original owner 1969 GTO convertible on ebay

It's always a treat to see these one owner time capsule cars with all the paperwork and story to go with it no matter what the condition.

I can smell the wonderfulness from here. Have always loved the feel and smell of a reasonably well kept car that age. Well broken in, and still drivable.

GTO's like this remind me of similar cars I saw on the road as a teenager in the 1980's . They were still roadworthy but somewhat tired with faded paint, light body damage and some rust. just like like this car. This was quite expected as they were approaching the 20 year old mark. In those days. it was quite the treat to see one on the road and I would be excited to tell my friends and parents how I saw a GTO. My friends and I also knew where quite a few "lived" and would often drive by the houses to see if they were parked outside to take a look. Many of the cars then were also in the hands of the original owner still or recently sold to the second. Looking back upon that now it sure was a lot a fun to be a 17 year old in 1987 who just got his licence and cruising around checking out all the cars.

It recently occurred to me that when I bought my 68 in 1976 is was two years newer than my daily driver truck is now, which is in great shape, everything working, just like the GTO was when I bought it.

These are the cars I love to buy and drive. Not perfect or even great, but still serviceable and with some maintenance can be a perfect daily driver car to enjoy them in. My '67 Bonneville and my '72 Lemans were in very similar condition, just drive them!

So many people see a car like this, strip it down "to restore it" and then get bored or in over their head and suddenly what was a decent driver becomes a parts car or worse.

The only issue I still have a hard time wrapping my head around these car's prices. 25 years ago you could get a car just like this for $1000-5000 and now... That's on me though as now I'm officially old.

At $28,000, figure a DIY person could probably make it right for about $10,000, assuming he's a painter. The average guy would probably spend $20,000+ to get it shaped up, or just leave it in the current condition.

That price puts it in a tough place. Could probably find a pretty nice one for $35,000.

What do you guys figure is a more realistic price ... $15,000 ?

$15k seems too low (it’s a convertible after all) but $28k is high. There doesnt seem to be one panel that doesn’t need quite a bit of work. Not the least of which is the Endura bumper. It’s got 2 things going for it: convertible and not messed with. But that’s about it to my eyes. Colors & options aren’t that desirable, and that’s how you try to recoup the cost. It’s just not quite nice enough to roll as is.

At the risk of getting myself tossed from this 68-69 forum, I’d much rather have your 66 than this 69.

My '67 GTO convertible looked a lot like this (same color even), but with out the dents when I picked it up in 1983 for $1800. I repainted it in '93 with a color change, rebuilt the engine in '88, and have put over 130,000 miles on the car since I bought it. Still have it. Have a total of about $4000 invested. Can't imagine this one brings close to 30k, but we'll see.

A friend of my father's has a verdoro green 68 he purchased new. Still has it and it's only accumulated 22,000 miles and garaged it's entire life
Non ram air but it is a 4 speed, still looks brand new! I have been trying for years to get him to part with it, someday it will be mine.
