Default mystery to me

Does anybody know what goes through this hole? 1964 Catalina 4-speed.

Someone added that hole for some reason IMO. I own/have owned several '61-'64 full size and have never seen that and just checked pictures I have of that area of the engine bay on several cars..

Someone else may step up.

Here is a picture of my 64 Catalina convertible with a 3 speed. No hole on mine either.

Looks like a nice round hole a plastic plug will take care of. I guess if you really want to "restore" the firewall, it could be patched with a sheet metal plug, welded, ground and re-finished. Sounds like allot of work a plastic plug would be my repair.

A snap in plug is what I was thinking would be the best solution. Thanks everyone for their input. It's such a clean hole, at first I thought it was Factory. Moving on, does anybody know what this is?

I had a 64 Bonneville that had the same hole.. It was an AC car..
