Default A question for everyone about Facebook

I am friends on FB with a lot of this Pontiac community. Some people I can figure out who they are on here, some I can't. Not sure if anyone is interested in sharing there name on here and FB name.

What I mean is on here I am JSPONT- Facebook I am Jeff Pontiac.
I am not hiding my last name just wanted to do car stuff on FB and not deal with family B.S. ( still don't work well)
I know a lot of names on FB but do not know who you guys are on here.

Post up if ya want, Thanks

Jeremy Drier. I'm on PMC and a few other Firebird groups as well as some local performance classified groups.

That's where I think people who shun facebook are really missing out is that is where a lot of good classifieds are moving too. Even if you wanted to do like above and make an account specifically for swapping and not even get involved in normal facebook activity.

The PMC guy may have been banned, idk but Ive never seen him say anything bad about the forums. I even brought it up specifically to him the other day, about the thread we had about tech data getting lost on facebook because it doesn't save for years on end like forum data does. He said he understood and agreed.

Both have their place IMO. I don't feel the need to argue one is superior to the other. Its like arguing a ratchet vs a wrench. I use all the tools and my disposal.

IDK about Facebook since my IPad has to labor with loading any new Facebook location other than my homepage. FB too slow and unstable through me IPAD for the last 8 months.

Enthusiast sites on FB....seems to be thr wrongk forum, format, BB, blog retention. Wish enthusiast sites had their own address for fast usage.

OP> You probably don't want to read this, but I tend to interface with people on FB who goes by a name not handle. Part of the appeal is seeing who people are in real life. I'm an open book and Anthony Hirsch. also have a business page of Inland Fitness.

I was Pontiac lemans on FB but they shut it down. I was told I had to send them a drivers license with that name on it LOL I am indymanjoe on all forums I frequent. Cars Bikes Tractors..nothing to hide. Joe Carrier on facebook but my real last name is Landmesser. I used my wifes maiden name to hide from old crazy Girlfriends. ( I'm sure I helped them get that way)..

.
If he did get banned I was just curious what his handle was here and what he did to get booted. Seems like a decent guy who's really into Pontiacs.

Facebook groups like that have their place but this forum cannot be beat and the archives are invaluable for fixing an issue one may have. On FB you seem to get some answers to problems that are way out in left field.

Just bought my Bandit TA from a guy on FB. And several parts, and some things in the Market Place on there.

Was never on it, and likely, never will be. Getting quite a bad rap these days, and seen as a geriatric forum for geriatric folks.....which may be accurate. I would be if I were on it!! Businesses that want my money need to have a real address, not a facebook one.

No Facebook here and no desire to have it.... or any other social media. I've seen and heard about all kinds of problems those I know with Facebook have, had, and are having. For me it's a good thing to stay away from. I can get into enough trouble without it using a regular 'ol landline telephone, and a cell phone too. LOL

With the cell phone happened this past Sunday just after I got back from my 50th HS Class Reunion.

Some of you are confused(?) This was a thread with name question for FB users. I think some are looking for the "Let me rant about Facebook thread".

You will get no argument from me that this forum in particular gives out the best information in the hobby. I mean if you post of a QJet question you will ussually get an answer from Cliff within the day. Not to mention some of the best Pontiac builders in the country, former aftermarket and mfg engineers dropping science for free. I think the Pontiac community is lucky on that front. This might be the best dedicated forum there is. I’ve been trying to find something similar for Ford with my Galaxie and nothing I’ve found comes close.

That said I think the guys shunning the use of Facebook to further your hot rod ends are just stubborn for no reason. The Marketplace is quickly overtaking craigslist, and being able to join tailored groups both in the social aspect and simply in the marketplace for classified ads is invaluable.

Back when internet forums first came out it was encouraged to use screen names and not your actual name, hence why I still use screen names. FB is different, but I rarely post on it.

I was teased into joining facebook many years ago;
I have all but stopped logging on...

It "feels" like a community, but it is not;
It is subtle in the way that it draws you back with information overload;
Some groups can be fun - but the temptation for crazy real time out bidding one another is there...
and then you realize, that it isn't a community, it's not a good source for useable information, and that even though it seems like a great way to find and buy stuff, it really isn't...
So I've backed away from FB...
I prefer the chase for parts (ect) in person...
I prefer to deal with people face to face - not through a computer...
I prefer my "friends" to be people who actually know me...

ok... rant over
