Default Good e-head exhaust valve for boost

Engine builder told me my stock e-head exhaust valves are warped. Who makes a valve that will take the heat?

Ferrea Special Alloy is the only way to go. Call David or Chase over at the Butler's, that's what I use on all my stuff, Pontiac or otherwise.

TQ

Used to know the boys at Ferrea down in Florida as they had a shop right down the block from Keith's place. Used their stuff on several high temp "studies" at Ford.

Titanium, as was said, has been used for years as has sodium filled valves. Both are expensive. Ferrea would be my personal first choice as I have no money.

We've used the Ferrea Special Alloy exclusively on the Grocery Getter exhaust (600 hp nitrous) with zero trouble. On their advice, we're using the same for the blown, nitro engine. We use titanium on the intake because it is a larger valve and the weight savings are more important there.

Question

Nobody uses iconel anymore?

Titanium has come down in cost lately; must be coming from Russia or China. Lord knows those Rooskies use enough of it in their submarines, AND they're a major source of the stuff....

The Ferrea Super Alloy valves use a variety of nickel-based alloys. If you have valves custom-specified, they pick a specific alloy based on your intended use....turbo, T/F, etc. I don't know specifically which alloy we have....Ferrea picks it for us.

FYI: we have found a dramatic improvement in valve & seat durability by using copper-beryllium seats. They have a "softer" landing for the valve and they sink heat away much better.

I have used copper-beryllium seats in some of my Boosted dyno engines with very good luck.

Thanks guys, looks like I will go with the Ferrea Special Alloy. Whats the best way to set up the valve guides, I think my builder knurled the guides and reground the stock valves, then I put about 30 miles and 5 pass on the motor and burned the top edge off of the #4 piston.

The best way is to press in a new set of bronze guides and then ream them to fit.

Anytime someone wants to "knurl your guide" walk away really fast.

No place for knurled guides in HP Engines, IMO. Knurling creates places for trapped oil, true but it also creates bits of metal that break off the guide walls and wind up in the oil. Bandaid for people who could not afford new guides. Same deal for knurled piston skirts.

Though they outlaw'd knurling guides back in the 80 's...

Manley also has some good HD ones.

We put a custom sized Ferrea 'special alloy' exhaust valve in the CV-1's going on my boosted pump gas 555. The guy completing the motor works on a lot of turbo/centrifugal motors, and wont use anything else because he has had 0 issues with them.

I've been using the Ferrea 6000 in my turbo engines without issue.
I ran 5000 series in the first two engines with no problems. I do run lower boost/power levels than most(15-16psi) but have lots of heat with my small turbos and no intercooler. I've seen near 1800 deg. EGTs at 16psi through the traps.
I think the water injection is really helping to extend the life of my valves/pistons.
