In 2000 I paid 3500 for a 64 lemans two door hardtop with every GTO option including the vacuum gauge. It was in in perfect shape and was an original owner car. Silvermist Gray with Blue interior. The guy had a YS code 66 389 in it with a matching muncie and positraction 3:36 gears. Man I miss that car

I was initially a Mopar guy. Don't know how it happened as I grew up in a family mainly of Fords and Chevys.
I got my license in 1970 and went looking for a car. Checked out quite a few but rust was a major issue back then even in cars only a few years old. I passed on a couple that in hindsight maybe I should not have; a 63 Chevy Impala SS and a 65 Plymouth Fury. Ended up with a 65 Plymouth Belvedere with 35K miles for $400. 225 slant six with a 3 on the tree. Had that for 3 years but needed more speed so I bought a new '73 Plymouth Road Runner, 400, 4 speed, posi for $3800 new. Beautiful car that turns out is quite rare with that combination. Had many Mopars until I bought my first Pontiac in '93. |

Makes me want to cry.....
June 1972 - Fresh out of high school, bought a 1971 T/A Auto w/9K from kid going back to college for $3900.00. Needed a set of points/tune-up. Took it one step further to a dyno shop. Had the carb and distributor reworked. Lot of street racing...picked my races wisely and lost only a few. Car was brutally fast for a "stockish" car and I saw God occasionally.
August 1974 - Gas crisis hit...longs lines for rationed fuel and a thirsty 455HO. Traded the '71 T/A for an ordered '74 Formula 350 4-speed $4200.00. Come back to the dealership a few days later after the purchase to pick up my plates and saw the T/A in the dealer used car lot... Got that feeling in the pit of my stomach and realized I made a big mistake.... 1976 - the 455 T/A was back and I raced down to the dealer to order a new one....455 4-speed fully loaded except power door locks and T-tops (squeaking water holes)...white/black int w/red/black/charcoal bird/lettering $5200.00. 1978 - Had a bad accident at a bad time in my life and bought a 1978 Lemans w/305 V8 $3800.00. I gagged every time I checked the oil (Orange Chevy small block). 1980ish - Drove the wheels off the Lemans...worn out w/100+K....met a guy through a friend who put a lot of time and money into a '70 RA III 4spd T/A (a respectable, nicely kept #3 car). Blue/white stripes/blue guts. Car has some motor work done and was neck-snapping fast.... clearly faster than the '71.... His wife filed for divorce... He needed a driver and didn't want the wife's hands on the T/A. He knew of my T/A-Firebird past and knew it would go to a good home, so I bought the car for $500.00 plus the Lemans. I had just got a job with a company car...so the T/A was my "Sunday afternoon car" Kept the car for a few years, met my now wife...life went in a different direction.... Offered the car back to the previous owner who passed on it and I sold it to a private party. Went "Pontiacless" during home purchase, furniture, baby, etc. etc. 1995 - Mid-age crisis.. Bought a frame-off, nut & bolt restored '69 Matador Red GTO Judge 4 spd A/C car....drop-dead gorgeous. This car was used by Danbury Mint to produce their series of their 1/24" scale die cast 1969 GTO Judge... Sold the Judge in 1998 and bought a Donzi....I hate boats, but the family enjoys it....so you married guys know the rest...lol Currently will be looking down the road in the next 6-8 years for retirement and I am hoping for another Pontiac.....thinking about a land yacht-sized Grand Ville convertible....time will tell.... |

I bought a 1969 dodge dart 318 4 spd bench seat in 1973 for $1095.00. In 1974
I hopped it with a cam edlebrock intake and holley 650 4 bbl. Ran like a sob. Had to sell it in 75, my girlfriend couldn't push the clutch in. |

In '81, bought my '67 GTO in Teterboro, NJ, for $735.00, which included a Sun tach mounted in the dash where the clock goes. Drove it home. Restored and kept if for the next 34 years before giving it to my oldest son. Missed not having a GTO, so bought a '71 recently, Carmine.

Purchased a 1972 GTO 4-speed A/C with 56,000 miles on it in 1981 for $2200. Had fresh paint and looked good, but the body work underneath was comprised of bondo stuffed into rust holes.

In 1976 I bought a rust free 1967 Firebird convertible with the 400 4 speed with about 60,000 miles. for $50.00, the guy bought it new for his wife and he told me in 1971 it stopped running and that he couldn't get it to start so he pushed into the garage and that's where it sat until I bought it in 76, it needed a timing gear and chain. me and my dad worked on it for a few hours in the guys garage putting on the new gear and chain and battery and 5 gallons of fresh gas, primed the carb and it started, the guy offered me $500.00 to buy it back, good thing we transferred the tittle before we got it running. I drove it home, washed the 5 years of dust off it and waxed it, beautiful car, gold on gold with a white top.
