67 GP vapor locking?
Finally getting the bugs worked out of my 1967 GP, 428 4 speed. I have put about 60 miles on the motor and have been fine tuning the car.
I have noticed now 3 times that after I drive the car several miles and shut it off, it will not restart for at least 15-20 minutes. It appears that it is vapor locking (Have pulled the air cleaner assy.) and it doesn't look like it is getting gas. When I rebuilt everything, I installed the "HO" version fuel lines and blue GM fuel filter with the return lines. These are from the fuel pump to the carb, and everything is new. The lines were difficult to install and they run behind the alternator and up against the block/ head and I am sure they are getting very hot. The distributor has been converted to Pertronix II and it now has the correct coil (tried 2 different coils) for the conversion. The motor runs very strong otherwise. The only other strange thing I see is the timing mark is no where close to where it should be in order to get the motor to idle. I have tied moving the distributor one notch, but ended up with the same results. Has anyone experienced this and or do you have a suggestion to remedy it? |
