My hose and fitting assembly is leaking where the rubber hose and pipe are crimped together. I am trying to keep the car as original as possible, so my goal is to find a NOS assembly rather than replace the hoses. But finding the NOS part is proving to be difficult. Can the old hose crimps be repaired in any way to make them stop leakiing?

This is the low and high pressure lines that come off of the a/c compressor.

if you have a local parts store that makes hydraulic fittings they may be able to cut the hose and replace the fittings. check the length tho, doing this may make the asm too short.

if you want nos try the local pontiac dealer, it's possible, not likely, they might still be able to loacte one.

Hi Warren,

What you are going to find are several problems trying to do what you really want. "Get these fixed" I know it stinks...

1. Most cars and shops today use R134A and are set up to repair to the EPA guidelines. So...what does that mean ? Most of the equipment services R134A cars and their parts...hoses ect...

2. The crimps on your hoses are Aluminum. The crimper machine blanks for the rebuilding R134A hoses are steel. That is all that is around these days. Partly b/c of the higher pressures of R134A....so I am told. Also, R134A uses barrier hoses. What you need to make these look right is the dies and the aluminum blanks. Plus, the right ribbed original GM hoses...which I have never seen. (Wish...I had a some)

I have occasionally restored these AC lines, but mainly for my cars...good cores are hard to find. Plus a lot of shops do not like to mess rebuilding these old lines..More trouble than it it is worth.. By the time, I find a core and get them built up...I am quite a few bucks invested.

If you want to locate a NOS set, I would contact Barry at Sonic Motors in Holly, Mi or Ron at Potomac Pontiac. If they do not have the NOS lines...you might be in trouble.

Last resort...call oldairparts in Texas 817-531-2665 and see what they will charge to rebuild. Also, they can rebuild the accumulator to look like the original one. Which is also obsolete (correct) looking one...!!

Well I contacted Old Air, Vintage Air, Hot Air, Cold Air and every one else on the planet that deals with NOS parts. No one has these old hose assemblies. My guess is that they didn't make many extras since most "normal" people would have their local shop rehose their pipes if they had a leak. So I had my shop rehose my old pipes/fittings with the steel ferrules and new style hoses. Now the system is leak free and I can preserve the $60 a pound R12.
