Smile Hey man...

Hi Steve,
I haven't received any fliers for the Barona event yet. The IEGTO meeting which is next week and it has the largest potential group of racers that may attend this event.

Steve -- Three flyers and some confusion about Friday night. I've talked to a few guys that read the flyer(s) and decided not to go on Friday night because they didn't believe they could run. Could you list the available brackets for Friday?

Could you also confirm that camping is available in the pit area at the track for Friday night?

I live 10 minutes from the Barona track and they always allow camping in the pits. Get there early for the best spots.

Hi Mick,
We will run Pontiac Heaven warm ups, testing on Friday night. We can also run a Pontiac eliminator if they want to.
There will also be open test and tune on Friday and the F body vs Mustang Shoot out.

Yes, camping is encouraged. I wanted to run a 2 day event to appeal more to those who are not local. Twice the fun and more time to race and socialize too.

1 week away everyone! Let's make it a good turnout! The better is does, the better the chance is we will run again at Barona!

Barona will be charging their $40 for getting in and tech card. Then, racers will come to our canopy to pay for and sign up for my programs.

Also, may be a bit short handed and wish to put out that we can use some help. Nothing strenuous. We could use a volunteer or 2 to help out in the registration area for an hour or 2. You would be helping getting people signed up , selling shirts, etc.

If you may be able to help for a bit, or know of someone who can, please contact me.

Steve, I have had a couple of guys ask me about the race fees. If I am to understand this correctly, racers will pay Barona $40 entry for car (tech card) and driver and then another $30 or $50 buy-in for Pontiac Heaven, depending on class. Correct?

Correct Dave. This was not my intention when flyers were printed but, this is Baronas policy I recently learned and it is their sand box.

Once racers are paid in at the Barona gate, they have a choice of entering 3 of my programs depending on their preferences and what is allowed for each one-

*Pontiac Heaven (Fri/Sat)- for any year and type of vehicle with real, traditional Pontiac power
*F body vs Mustang (Fri only)- for all years and types of these models
*Nostalgic Show & GO! ( Fri/Sat)- for all 1981 and older

Racers can enter 2 or 3 programs if their vehicle qualifies.

This weekend, the pace to be is Barona drag strip near San Diego!

Thumbs up Great time...

Thanks to Steve and Keith for driving 700 miles twice in order to present the drag racing part of the 2013 Pontiac Heaven. I had a time racing my IEGTO buddies and then went out in the first round to 17 yr. old Cole Preston driving his father & son restored '67 Gold GTO . Young mister Cole went on to win the Trophy Class in his very first drag race .

It was good to see you Les and glad you attended and ran your GTO as well. For the record, the event was run by myself and long time friend, Pete Brennan who is my normal race director.
Keith rode out with friends on Saturday and we are also glad he attended. They elected to head back to Phoenix Sunday morning but, Pete and I decided to spend the day near the coast and enjoy the nice weather before heading back to 110 degree heat in Phoenix.

Pete and I were there Friday afternoon and ran the event both nights. Pete and I did get in some tourist time. It has been 25 years or so since I have visited the San Diego area so, we went to Balboa park, the model railroad museum on Saturday morning. On Sunday, we visited Point Loma

, spent a good part of the day on the carrier USS Midway after lucking out on a choice parking spot for my GTO.

This shot is taken on one of the port elevators on the Midway looking across San Diego bay at 2 current carriers- CV 70 Carl Vinson and CV 76 Ronald Reagan.

and we then took a harbor cruise and saw the naval and other ship yards, etc. Here is another view of the Midway from the water. Pete and I both walked out on those extensions on the bow of the carrier and it was kinda' creepy for me hanging out there that high off the water.

Pete and I got back to my place before midnight. we did not want to drive across the desert in the heat anyway. my '66 GTO was packed to the limit with event stuff but, had no issues with her other than 2 tires that the belts separated on the way there on Friday. I bought a new one at Pep boys in Santee and a used one in the same area. Pete and I have been friends for over 33 years and he helps me a lot at my local events, etc but, he has a wife and family so, it is rare that we get to travel together so, we crammed in as much stuff as we could.
I used to visit Sand Diego and other parts of the Ca coast, esp Orange county areas, a lot before I got into performance boating. Since then, I prefer going to the local lakes or the Colorado river but, it was still nice to get to the ocean for the day.

I will be posting a pic of 2 here from the race but, event results and more pics will be on the pontiacheaven.org website and facebook page.

Arrow Sorry about that...

Sorry, Steve. I failed to recognize your long time friend, Pete, for his lengthy service @ Pontiac Heaven events . I'm glad that you guys got to enjoy some of the SoCal sights and attractions during our June weather.
