North, what do you think of the font on the 0's on the above WY block?
with as many '69's as you have, would figure you would have as good a idea as any. thanks!

The zero's were more oval shape. That looks like the letter 'O' not zero '0'

The front of the blocks were blanchard ground, which has a very noticeable
'pattern'.
If it were ground smooth it would be quite noticeable as being modified.
If it was ground leaving marks, it would not look like the factory pattern.
The one pic looks very smooth.

The engine code seems ok but the numbers look suspect which makes you wonder. I'm out of town for a few weeks but when I get back I'll take pics of the numbers on all my untouched engines, see if there how consistent the font, depth and spacing etc is

Here is an extreme closeup of my EUN.

The difference I see on some is that the tooling used to produce this stamp appears to have a rounded profile on the actual working point of the imprint tool. Not a sharp point that leaves a very "V" shaped imprint, but more of a round bottom V.

Course I guess the tooling could get worn and perhaps round off by the end of a production run or something.

If you have any stamps at home, you'll notice most sets for hand stamping have a sharp profile ... again, could be because they are new.

Usually the letter codes seem to be slightly off in alignment compared to the EUN, I assume these were stamped after it was determined what configuration a particular engine would have.

If you look at the font used here ... in my opinion there is no way they would use an "O" shaped "0" ... They are still obviously different even on a modern computer.

What's the date code and block casting code on that 70 455?
(and VIN?)

I’ve often seen that, probably the machine that stamps the numbers is like a bicycle combination lock or an odometer. The wheel for that digit didn’t shift properly.

Not sure it's really 'odd'.

The factory used their own type of punches so if someone esle used the normally available ones everybody else could get, it would be clear it was different.
(basically their own font for them I think)

I've never seen that particular font before ... but I doubt GM got together and cooridinated all their EUN fonts.

And for the most part, I can't imagine anyone going to the trouble to forge an EUN, just no point in it ... unless as mentioned they thought it was supposed to match the VIN, but then most people that know that, also know where the VIN is supposed to be stamped.

Jeez, didn't even notice that ... I haven't seen enough VINs to know what font they used, but that certainly looks factory to me. Can't imagine someone having stamps to match that font.

(I have my suspects)
