Have 64 Tempest with a get a round rear. Pulling a posi out of a 69 Judge to replace with correct XM. Can the rear assembly be used in the 64 w/o much worry and modification?
Thanks

If you're looking to replace the entire assembly drum to drum, it's a bolt-in. The only difference between the 2 is if your '64 rear is original, the '69 is going to be 1" wider overall. Only an issue if you've got tires that are right out to the fender lip right now. Just carefully check the condition of the axle bearing and axles on the '69, as well as the brake line, change the fluid, and go. Good time to replace all the bushings, too...

If you have an original '64 rear end in the car, you will have to change the upper control arms to the '65-'67 variety. The upper bushings on the '64 were a different size. '64-'67 Chevelle upper arms work as well.
