Just got an email from a local dealer. GM is now offering $5300 off on all remaining 04 GTO's in stock, on top of 2.9% for 60 months. If you were waiting for the end of the year blowout, looks like it is here

I plan on picking one up, but I want the '05 - and I will wait until later in the model year. I won't pay over Invoice for anything, especially a car that doesn't yet have a track record of holding its value.

TA,

Are you sure that was not $3,500? Old news. Also, that 60 @ 2.9% has been around for months.

They are going to have to do better than that.

OK, $5,300 off invoice AND 0% for 72 mo, THEN you'll have a deal!

They offered me 72 @ 0% AND the $3,500 in Sept. I walked.

Christmas... You'll see.

Yea, the 72@0 is without rebates. With REbate and if you have a GM Card, you could take off up to $5500 and if you ask, certain GM dealers have savings certificates valued between $1-1.5K.

That and 2.9 for 60 months is a hell of a lot better than 0% for 72 months.

Well, they did it once before (0% and cash back), but how good one deal is over another also depends largely upon how much you put down.

The basic rule is to always use the other guys money for as long as possible.

Nope. they offered the 0for 72 for 3 days and it wasn't in conjunction with any rebates, at least not on the GTO.

The point is that unless you plan on keeping the car the whole time, you need to weight what is best for you. a $29K car at 0 for 72 is still going to cost more than a $25K at 2.9 over 5 years.

Yes, the 72 thing was for three days, and they threw the $3,500 at me.

I plan on keeping any new car for 10 years, just like any other major appliance. The Yukon will be almost worthless by then, and the engine/trans will go in my Elco. Same thing with the Holden, engine and trans will go in something, and the hulk will be sold for parts.

Although, the dealer near me with all the inventory has sold it all (10 units) in the last three weeks, and 5 of them went today according to GM Buypower. I might have gambled and lost on this one after all. We'll see. Good thing I don't care much one way or the other.

I test drove a 6spd today, and could have grabbed it for under $24K! Sweet ride, but I want the extra goodies on the 05's.

Financing, particularily @ 0%, is an excellent financial tool. If your only goal is to buy a car then it makes no difference. If you have investments, then blowing that much coin on a consumer product that will provide negative return takes away your opportunity to grow the money. Makes no sense to pay cash for some of us.

It would be a bit short-sided to pay cash for a car if you can get 0% financing, and discipline yourself to invest the money in smart places.

I figured the savings was around $2k by taking the $3500 rebate and the 2.9 for 60 months with a $10k trade in vs the 0% for 72. I usually keep my cars for long time (the formula being the exception) so I figured that $2k was worth hanging onto.
