Default Need 70 palisade green 45 paint code

Hey guys, first attempt by my painter to purchase paint for my 70 Lemans original palisade green car. Not sure just what the trouble was but they turned him away as they could not figure out the paint code. I'm leaving it to him for now to deal with the paint supply shop he normally does business with, hopefully I can get some clarification on what to tell or ask the supply shop. I think he may have told them "45 48" from the body tag and that may have confused them but any clarification from you guys would be appreciated.

I think you are confusing paint "code" with paint "formula". 2 totally different things that are connected. You need a paint code to obtain a paint formula for the brand of paint being used. However, not all formulas still exist. Therefore it may not be mixable in the brand of paint your painter wants to use. I suggest trying a different brand of paint.

Correct, I have the code, 45, I need help with the formula. I asked the painter if it mattered what brand and he didn't think so but, if the supply shop had a problem, it could be the brand then.

Post up what brand of paint. Someone might chime in with an old formula for that brand.

There is another way around it but it is a PITA. It involves doing a spray-out of a brand that has the formula then doing a paint photo analysis in the brand your painter wants to use. Like I said, it is a bit of a PITA doing it that way, but it works.

Does the underside of your trunk lid have some quality correct color ? If so ..you can buff that up and get a camera shot (a computerized 10,000.00 color camera ) and it will spit out a few formulas. Then get a small amount mixed and spray out some test cards....and see if you like it.

If this link works it should show you several different paint brands with formulas.
Hope it helps you out.

My recent experience ordering paint was that the jobber didn't recognize the Pontiac name for the colour and wanted something else. Turned out the GM name fo rteh colour and the GM code was what they were looking for.

Example, my car is 1970 GM code 75, which Pontiac calls Cardinal Red. I asked the jobber to mix me some "1970 GM code 75", and they said they wanted more info to make sure they were mixing the correct formula.

I said the name of the colour is "Cardinal Red". They said, nope, not enough info, we want the GM paint code (not the same as the 2 digits on the trip tag.

So in my case the GM code (from the restoration manual) was WA3975. I gave them that info, and they said oh, you want 1970 GM Fire Red. I checked that on the paintref.com website and turns out that is the same thing, just named differently. Chevy called the same paint colour Cranberry Red. Go figure.

Anyway, using the paintref.com data, 1970 shows Pontiac's Palisade Green is the same as 1970 GM's Seamist Green or Chevrolet's Green Mist. It shows the GM code as WA4025, so any paint supplier should be able to mix paint based on that info unless they don't have a formula for it.

Yes, thank you guys. My guy just went to another supplier and they had no problem. This is a Nason paint. He already bought it and I was able to check it out on a paint stick in the direct sunlight, absolutely beautiful color! Cant wait to see it on the car!

Good deal, I figured that would be the case. Whoever that other supplier was either did not keep old files or just did not want to be bothered with an old color formula. I am also guessing you (or your painter) were dealing with a younger sales person. If something does not pop up right away their favorite line is "it's not available". Post up a photo when the color is laid out.
