I'm wire wheeling my Rally I's and gonna paint them the correct shade of Silver. My question is, what color should the inner ( car side ) of the rim be painted. It seems like it was painted black, but not sure if just road grime.

OK, thanx. I assume that I cannot harm my steel wheels with a pressure washer, even with very strong direct spray. Thoughts ?

Why don't you send the wheels out to be sand or media blasted ? You will have a much better finish . The method you are using now will not produce a good lasting finish . Just my 2 cents worth .

I guess it is instinctive for me to try and do it myself first. I value your opionion Jim as I believe you own a body shop if I recall. My wire wheel technique has successfully removed all of the silver paint/rust from the good side of the Rally I. The backside of the wheel is all black and a PITA to be honest. Do you feel it is the final texture of the wire wheel versus media blasting that would yield the difference in a lasting finish ? I could sandblast them I guess if you think the end results will be vastly improved. Thanks for your help

Wire wheeling any metal may clean it , but it dosn't really clean it . It will not got all the contaniments out like blasting can . You want that fresh , ultra clean metal surface .
Then spray a little self etching primer , followed by epoxy primer . Then paint your wheeels . Looks great and will last a long time .

Actually the rims were black on the back side. Only silver facing out. I have several old MCR articles that also point that out.
