Default SD-455 Carb Question

I am having a problem with my 7044270 Auto Trans SD-455 Carb. A previous owner drilled 1/8" holes in the primary throttle plates and I need to replace them. Does any one know if the primary plates are larger on this 800 cfm carb or are they the same size as an 750 cfm carb. Also if someone has a set I would be grateful and buy them if available. Thank you very much for any help. Bob 248-760-0021

Bob,

The throttle plates are the same as on the 750 carbs.

I would suggest sending your carb base out to a highly-respected Q-jet expert like Cliff Ruggles, he could replace the throttle plates and re-bush the throttle shafts (if necessary) to make your base like new with a fairly short amount of turnaround time.

If you'd like to do the work yourself, I would suggest placing a 'parts wanted' ad in the appropriate classified forum. Or I'm sure you could buy the plates you need from Cliff, he's probably swimming in an ocean of them.

Good luck, Bart
