battery cable length
Can anyone tell me the correct length for the battery cables on a 76 Trans Am with a 400? The positive cable on the car right now is waay too long!

I just got done making mine on my 1975, and I used 3ft of cable. Length is pretty much right from the starter to the battery. I compared the old cable from my '73 Grand Am, and it's pretty much the same length.

No offense but, there is no way that 3 feet of cable gets you from the battery to the starter if you are using the correct routing procedure. I believe that the correct length is closer to 50". This assumes that you are going up through the steel sleeve on the front of the LH cylinder head.

I went and re-measured and... it's 4 feet. So the guy only charged me for 3 feet of cable and gave me 4 =P

I just replaced mine with 1/0 welding cable. Turns out my knife lever ground cut off switch on the neg terminal doesn't like it. High resistance and gets real hot on extended cranking. Going to try the 200+ amp load top post battery master cut off switch. The round style. OK,
