What Will Work?
Ok, I searched the forums with lil luck so I'm going out on a limb here... I have a 76 T/A with a 400ci and a blown automatic transmission. I want to swap in a late model transmission but I don't know the first step in doing this. So ...here's my questions...
1) what later model transmissions will work? Like a 2002 T/A 6spd, will that fit with little modification? 2) what do I need to know before I attempt doing this? 3) Is this a good idea or would it be smarter to find another transmission of the era (IEO BW T-10 4spd) 4) What other questions should I be asking aside from these? I hope to hear from everybody soon! Thank you to all those who read and thank you even more to those who post! Oh and if anybody found a forum on here like this one please feel free to make me look like an ass and show me it...I have no shame! |

I asked a similar question awhile ago about an overdrive auto in the "Street" section
maybee you can also try posting there, heres the post I made and the answers I got http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/....php?p=3367880 Try looking arround on this site http://www.keislerauto.com/ They offer complete 5&6 speed manual trans swap kits, but they are not cheep (at least for me) it looks like the way to go if switching from an auto to a manual I looked into doing what your trying to do and the first thing I found was it costs ALOT more to swap to a different trans than to rebuild what you already have. Good Luck with it, 1976 is a cool year Bird.
