Default Dash Knob Lettering Color

What color is the lettering suppose to be on the bezels around the knobs on a '68 GTO.
I have seen all black, all white, and both black & white.

I was going to say white, but if Bob says black, then it may vary from plant and date of production

My 68 was bought brand new by my mother and it has white letters.

I'm going to have to go with White here as well. Have a pic of my 1st 68 taken in 1975 (before repros?). Also my latest Tempest was white, though I can't vouch for it's originality. Replacements I got were black and I had to paint em to match. Does not mean that some were not black from the factory.

Hi,
The bezels on the knobs on my 68 GTO dash are black.
Car was bought new by my Dad after he drove my 67 GTO HT, 4-speed.

'68 was a transition year from Black to White bezel writing... That would maybe explain both being available and correct depending on Car Build Date (Like '70 Rally II centers being either Black w/Red PMD or Red w/Black PMD)...

Good info. I am interested to know the cutoff date between the colors, if there is a date, or the various plants just used the black ones till they ran out.

The 68 wiper knob is unique to 68 and I have never seen one with white lettering, but then we on the left coast are a bit different.

Here's a '68 with White..Although '68 had a unique knob for wiper, I believe the bezel for it was shared with '67 as well ('67 being black only while again '68 can have either depending on build date)...Curious to see some '68 build dates and mention of White vs Black to see if you can determine approximate switch-over date, taking into account leftover stock that may have been used up too)...

Just an FYI...I just left the local Pull-A-Part. There was a '68 Catalina sitting right next to a '68 Bonnie. They both had white lettering on all the control knobs.
Didn't think to look at the build date on the Cat and the Bonnie cowl tag was missing.

Yeah I understood what you meant, Bob..I was just re-iterating the fact that 67-68 shared the same bezel with the word WIPER on it and in '68 could have been either Black or White, while in '67 it was Black..In '68, Button always had WASHER in black (a very light black), from what I've seen...
