There is a good story about a 68 RAII convertible in April 2006 Hemmings Muscle Machines.

I remember seeing that car on ebay. I don't know where it went, but, when I was out east a few years ago I visited a GTO collector in Maryland that I know (bought my '68 bird from him back in '96). He had a '68 RAII GTO 4-speed sitting there that was red with a black vinyl top w/o the original motor. If I remember right, he told me it was originally verdoro green. I wondered if it could be that ebay car but I couldn't remember if the ebay car had a vinyl top.

Anyone know what became of that Verdoro green/Ivy gold, 4 speed car from Ebay?

So what are everyone’s thoughts on value on one of these? I am completely out of the ballgame with infant twins. I can’t even afford to open the garage let alone purchase another car but it is still fun to write about. (noticed that just in a few days, this thread is one of the top ones for views so it must be a popular subject)

Eliminating the few trailer queens - If you were in the position to purchase and found a real RA2 4sp GTO in fairly rust free original condition complete but needed full restoration, what would you be willing to pay for it based on this market? $10’s, 20’s, 30’s, 40’s… (not just to flip but actually wanted a RA2)

How about same condition but wrong block or engine?

There was just a thread last week where it was asked what a rust free 69 RA4 4sp is worth with wrong engine and color. Most posts were around 20K. Would you value it more in today’s market if it was a 1968 RA2?

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=620507

Ram Air I – You need to start a thread with your documents and as many pictures as you can of your FB if it is that original and unmolested! There can’t be more that a few 68 RA cars left in that condition.

25 k for an unrestored car in decent shape that is not all messed up would be a good starting point.

Muscle-collector,

I do believe the RA II car that I mentioned from Michigan is red. I have never personally seen the car so I am not 100% sure.

Brian,

Good luck with the twins!! As they age it gets easier in some ways but tougher in others!!

428RA,

Considering how desirable these RA II cars are, I think there is still quite a desire and market for them. Therefore if a RA II body without engine, trans, RA Parts and suspect rearend sold for 35k then and decent RA II car that has all parts would have to go for 20K more.

What do you guys think a RA II convertible would go for???

Take Care,

I would have to guess somewhere between what you have been offered and what Rob is asking for his black one.....safe to say you are in Judge convertible territory.

i would like to see you actually buy one of the handfull known to exist for 25k. the only way that could happen would be for something like the guy who bought the one not knowing what it was.

We know this has happened once already....that Lake Placid Black car we all know about. This is an interesting thread. It is nice to see people excited about 68 cars.

you failed to read the part about someone not knowing what they had. as for robs car, that would fall into the same category. actually buying one that someone knows what they have isnt going to happen for a car like you mentioned for 25k. if so, give me the names of the guys who want to sell theirs for that i and i will find buyers quickly. like myself.

The hell I didn't. The seller did not know what they had in that case. I was just reading about that story again in The Hemi in the Barn. I also didn't mention a car like that being available for 25K. I was just stating that some people may still not know what they have...especially if it is a late relative's car and they are not car people.

I think you have me confused with someone else.

Default 68 RA II Firebrd vs 68 RA II GTO ?

getting back on RA II topic....

Gary I have a specific road race question...

I have spoken with you and its clear for Fbodies and racing we have...

68RA2 > 69 RAIV (always and by a few car lengths)

and for A bodies....

68 RA 2 > 69 RA IV (edging out the IV)

now did you ever race the 68 RA II GTO vs the 68 RA II Bird.

Obviously the bird had a significant weight advantage and likely won but wonder just how close that match was?

was it a closer race than say 68 RA II FB vs 69 RA IV FB was?

Is this a correct 1/4 mi (stock config) ranking? (if not what is your rank estimation?)

1. ra 2 bird
2. ra 4 bird ?
3. ra 2 gto ?
4. ra 4 gto

Me thinks the 68Bird has a 60foot Traction advantage over the 68GTO with Factory parts or even 1 simple add-on.

Thanks John!
I have learned quickly that it will be a few years before I get back to any of the cars, projects or parts. By the time I touch them again, I’ll have to ask you to come over and show me where everything goes!

For now I have to just discuss them, especially one of my favorite subjects – 68 RA cars!

As far as speed, can’t comment on the RA2 F/B, but I can state that our RAII 4sp GTO is quicker then the RA1 4sp F/B, but not by much. The RAIV is the quickest but is modified so it can’t be a true comparison.

Personally would like to see one of the pure stock guys build a RA1 F/B or RAII GTO and see how it stacks up to the RAII F/B.

never did do that one. dont know why, should have. did do the ra4 bird vs the ra4 gto. bird smoked the crap out of it.

i think that is the way i would put it in order.
