I was actually wondering the reverse, can I leave the lines connected all the time. I guess either way seems fine.
Another question along those lines (no pun intended), did you guys bleed your hydraulic system first time you used it? Mine doesn't seem to need it and I was wondering if it's required.

Looks like there is not a lot of space between the jacks.

I've assembled a few sets of Quickjacks for friends and have always bled them following the instructions but have never seen any air come out of the bleeder or noticed any difference in operation before or after.

It really depends on the car, I guess. On the Mustang, the subframes are pretty close together, although there is still room to pull the transmission between them. It's not perfect, but it's nice for my garage situation.

I was thinking the same thing, about how it depends on the car. I only just got mine, but it seemed wide enough to work in there.

You can't really work on the center of a car of truck with a scissors lift. That's its biggest downfall. If I was to pull my tranny, change the clutch or work on the exhaust, I couldn't do it with my scissors lift. If you want a scissors lift I'll sell you mine for 1300 bucks. But you have to come and get it. Make sure you have a 10 foot trailer and a winch with you.

This is a bit of an old thread but it seems to be the only Pontiac site with reply's to this subject.
Can a 2nd gen Firebird be lifted by the pinch weld with this Quickjack? My car has a low stance and I'm not sure I have the height to slide this under the frame rails. I won't be able to get to the car for another 2 weeks to actually measure it but want to place my order before Costco discontinues this item. |

I lift mine by the subframes and there is plenty of room; I imagine you could lift it by the pinch welds if you wanted to, but I haven't tried it. I lifted my wife's 2012 Mustang by the pinch welds with no problems. It comes with fairly hard rubber "pucks" that contact the car to lift it.

Height doesn't mean a thing if you can't work on anything in the center of the vehicle on it. I have a scissors lift I like... but like less because I can't get in to pull the transmission and bell housing to change the clutch, or work on anything in the center of the car.

So are those unibody blocks OK to use on a 2nd Gen F-body pinch weld?

I have used my Quick Jack on the pinch welds of my 1991 Toyota MR2 and 1993 Corvette with out any problems. Both cars are designed to be lifted by the pinch welds. On yours I would lift by the sub frame. Also the max. height is 21.3 in, not 17.5 in in a previous post.

Bob, are those cars engineered to be lifted by the pinch weld?

Those look rather rickety. Thin box tubing scares me and for about $1500.00 (plus freight) a person can do better. I went to a garage auction and bought a real portable lift for $900.00. A Rotary portable. I feel much safer under my Rotary than I would that Ranger and Rotary is found in most professional shops. Never seen a Ranger in a professional shop.

I finally had a chance to take a closer look underneath my Firebird to see if it can be lifted by the pinch welds and unfortunately it will not work due to fuel and brake lines that run right along side this area.
Also, lifting from the frame rails most likely will not work either for me because: a. the bottom of my 3" exhaust is lower than the the bottom of frame and b. there is only 2" between exhaust and frame rail I think at least one if not both of these items will inter-fear with the Quickjack structure preventing the rubber blocks from contacting the underside of frame. |

Question for quickjack users. SLX vs EXT for 2nd gen Firebird? The "lift spread" that seems ideal to me would be about 64". I think the 60" would work but having up to 66" may be better. Has anyone gotten the SLX and later wished they had the EXT??
EDIT: Well, right after I posted this I went back to the website and they had just put up a summer sale on the 5000 SLX for $250 off. They make an extension to increase the spread to 66" that sells for $250, so even if I end up getting that it will still cost less than the 5000 EXT. So order placed. https://www.quickjack.com/car-lifts/bl-5000ext/ SLX minimum lift point spread: 31.5" EXT minimum lift point spread: 37.5" SLX maximum lift point spread: 60" EXT maximum lift point spread: 66" SLX overall frame length: 70" EXT overall frame length: 76.5" (5000EXT model only)

Actually, thanks for bringing this subject back up. I was toying with getting a scissor lift, was looking at one and had completely forgotten about this jack.
Question.. What determines/limits the maximum width if they are standalone units? Sent from my moto g stylus (2021) using Tapatalk

Anyone have the "Tilting car lift 3000"?
Decent price with a lot of good reviews. But that's company's web site.
