Question 1969 Firebird 400 nose emblems?

69 400 front bumper crest emblem

Anyone get a repro one for your car? Mine is an original. My resto is 20 years old, and the tip of one side of the crest broke off, and I need to replace it. Would like an NOS one but cannot find one. BTW that’s not rust on the bumper it’s a reflection.

There is a guy that makes 69 correct ones.
He lists them on ebay occasionally. I have bought a couple from him and they fit perfectly. I think his ebay name is "kustombird" , will check and confirm

I looked to see if I could find any info from him and I don't see anything. I bought a couple from him and they fit well. IIRC, he had a bunch, like a few hundred, I suggested he contact Ames and/or PY to sell them as he wanted to unload them. Perhaps that was the source of the ones Ames has?

I believe you are correct with his name on Ebay but he would only appear every once and a while. I think he was in California. May be wrong, just going by memory, I bought extras and thought I would never need the info any more. Stupid me.

The curve of the emblem. The 69’s bumpers nose are shaped a bit different.

Agree, anyone thinking '68 and '69 emblems are the same need their head examined.

Unfortunately some of the parts places selling these emblems are advertising them as correct for 67, 68, and 69, but they in fact are not the same 69 bumpers nose width is a hair wider and needs the crest that cradles that width.

Mine is 21 years old and is just plain wore out from the sun and vibration.

I would give Ames a try. I just looked up the part and it clearly is a different PN than for 67-68, show 69 by itself. It sounds like it would be right. FB101 for 67-68, FB102 for 69, says "quality is good".

Just an FYI - Ames states that part number is the same as 67-68

Need an original if anyone has one .

The repo ones for 69 that I have bought are made of hard plastic instead of rubber like the OE ones. They look and fit well.

Maybe we can get them made correctly. How hard could it be .probably could 3D print the damn thing today finer had a nice original to go by.

I have a friend who makes toy prototypes for companies.

If that didn’t work out I still have some connections in China from when I did the headers different type of build so not sure they’d be much help but could try .

I purchased 10 of the reproduction pieces from the guy out in California years ago along with some stack gauges. I still have a couple 2 or 3 left. I have a custom mold maker near me and I will see about having them cast in Urethane to be more authentic and durable. My biggest concern is the two colors. The Urethane can be poured in black but having silver highlights may be an issue (getting paint to adhere). Maybe it can be cast in two colors, I'll find out.

As mentioned above, the reproduction are of a hard polymer that I received from Mike (guy in California). I believe I still have his contact information if anyone needs it. I can also provide any pictures of these repo's if needed.

I believe so, would have to look at my old invoice from my purchase to confirm.

As an FYI, these reproduction emblem pieces have room for improvement. I plan to address them if I have them cast in Urethane or similar.

Current PM's have been answered.
