Default Still need tri power help

I've got a 65' 389 auto in a catalina with a vacuum gauge and power brakes, i'm installing a direct linkage 66' model tri power on it, so everyone knows what i'm working with. Trying to get info on all the needed vacuum ports and pieces that go with. I have the pcv all done and the parts for the power brake line and fitting to the front carb base, what exactly do i need for the distributor, vacuum gauge and heater control vacuum connection? Pictures say 1000 words, i've heard of a hollow stud on 65's? I have no idea at all what i need here, trying to use correct 66' parts for a direct linkage setup with the above mentioned accesories, need to know all the fittings and brackets associated with this, i know it's been done many times because i've seen all these 2+2's on here with power options, where are you guys at?? Pop off your tiny air cleaners and please post some pictures, thanks Jim

All of it?? i've never even seen one of those studs or anything that looks like a tee coming out of one, all i've been able to find so far on other vehicles are cobbled up vacuum lines with tees in the middle of the pcv line and weird things like that, things that can't be right.
Is there another online source for this info, i'm not having any luck even with Mike's tri power website. Doing a search in these forums has only resulted in more conflicting information.

Arrow My 66 tri-pwr

Here you go; the hollow stud that engineer is referring to is mounted in the front/pass side corner of the rear carb (barely visable above the frt./rr carb linkage arm in the two middle pics). There is also a full manifold vacuum port in the base of the rear carb. The non-stock E-choke is one of Mike's products, and the silver lump bolted onto the bottom of the throttle arm is BowTie O'Drive's 700R4 adjustable tv linkage cam.

Thanks wheelspin, do you know if a tee fitting possibly threads onto the hollow carb stud or maybe just piece of hose, then tee off, then more hose? Also there's a plug in the middle carb base on the backside dead center, does that need to do something? i've got my dist. vacuum rigged up from there right now only because i couldn't find any other source.

Question Tri-pwr details...............

Jim,

Are you trying to faithfully restore (concours/judging) your unit or just make it functional? The reason I ask is that I can look up the correct location of each vacuum source and their destination in my GTO Restoration Guide, if you wish.

A "T" can be placed anywhere in the hose that is slipped on to the hollow stud (the hollow stud is finished w/ a smooth nipple on the end) and I would install a 1/8" NPT vacuum nipple in the base of the center carb, replacing the existing plug. This will provide the three vacuum sources that you currently require. Additionally, if you don't care about correctness, you could install another hollow stud, if needed (they are reproduced).

Les

YES!! that's exactly what i could use, i want to do it 66' correct if the repro parts allow it, for two reasons, looks and future maintenance, problem is i'm starting with zippo as far as vacuum fittings and my shop manual is surprisingly no help.
I have email if that would help, the best thing would be a diagram with the accesories desribed above and a shot of all the vacuum fittings up close, going to Vegas early in the morning so i won't be able to reply for awhile, my email is oilcapitalclassics@live.com THANKS Jim

Arrow 66 trips info.................

Jim,

Sorry about not following up on my last post, but I suggest that you be a little more patient when requesting info from unpaid volunteers .

After reviewing my GTO Restoration Guide (available from our host, major auto book sellers, and most aftermarket Pontiac shops for around $30) it won't help you as it has a few small & poor quality pics of the assembled 66 Trips, but no closeup detail shots as you are requesting. The website that Robert posted may have what you need and Googling 66 tri-pwr produces 100s of pictures. Searching the 66-57 GTO PY Forums topic will give you the answer for which device (ie dist.) is fed from which vacuum port, as it has been discussed many times. ALL of the vacuum ports in the intake manifold and carb bases (below the throttle plates are full manifold vacuum, suitable for anything requiring vacuum on your 65.

If your search does not furnish your requested info, I could take additional closeup pics of my assembled unit, which is correct except for the electric choke setup.

Les
