Default Mid 70s Pontiac Swap into 69 Lemans

Hey all, I have finally got my mid 70s 400 bolted into my 69 Lemans. The power steering pump is my biggest question now.

Can a stock power steering pump from the 69 that came from the original 350 bolt onto the newer block? There's quite a bit of confusion on some sites that has me scratching my head.

should i just try it and make sure to line the pulleys up?

Any assistance would be helpful

By all means give it a try and see if it works. It doesn’t look like any of the power steering assembly bolts to the block on my 69, it’s all attached to the drivers side cylinder head. I have #62 heads on my car. You say mid 70s 400 so you probably don’t have 69 vintage heads. You’ll have to check where your heads are drilled/tapped to compare with the heads you pulled the PS assembly from and see if they match.

Well, this is something l struggled with for a while on my '68. What I have found is that it doesn't matter as much what engine it's going on as it does whether all of your brackets, accessories and pulleys match each other.
Do you have the Zazarine Resto guide? If so, start looking on page 367. It's a lot to absorb but you can figure out what will work with what.

Everything off the 69 should bolt up using the 69 brackets.

I put a 455 with 6X heads in a 69 FB and used all 69 brackets and pulleys to make it look close to original as possible.

contact me if you need help. pm for number.

Good Luck with your Pontiac

Agree, going newer to older usually isn't an issue using all the older brackets and such. Older (heads </= 69) into newer years (>/=1970) is where problems arise as the older heads don't have the upper boss & bolt hole for the newer bracketry.
