Did I kill the alternator?
Getting ready to dive in under the grease pit of the GTO's engine compartment to retrieve the burnt wires and replace/re-sleeve.
As a bit of background, improperly sleeved wiring that routed through the heat shield tube got tangled around the steering shaft, parted ways, causing a dead short that blacked out the entire car. New parts are here from AMES, fantastic customer service! Now to dive in... QUESTION: Read in another forum that it is possible when not correctly removing power from the battery in a car with original wiring - quickly removing the cable from the battery upon seeing smoke fried the diodes in the alternator or caused other havoc down the line. Electrical is my weak subject - so explain it like I'm six. Thanks! |
