Finally Buttoned up the short block
Weekend weather was outstanding, near 90 today gave me enough motivation to pull this back out and button up the bottom end.
All the bolt-on's have been done, so now I'm down to the Head and Cam assembly. But will still likely be running in a slow gear. I need to get the Carb project wrapped up then I'll get back on this engine.

Pick-Up Clearance
Wanted to be sure I was as close to the bottom as I could get.

Small advances
Taking head over to shop this weekend.
Otherwise just tackling small task when time allows. OE hardware getting inspected and cleaned up. Had the carb gone through and started putting the manifolds together just for the hell of it.

Shop was closed for a long holiday weekend
Will try again this weekend. Went ahead and started setting up some of the bolt-on bits and free up some space in the bins. So dam close...

Jeff, looking at your engine I'm noticing what is and isn't painted blue. What do you think was the factory correct situation? For example the water pump? The bolts holding the accessory block etc? In other words how complete was the engine when they painted it and what parts were painted before assembly.
I know we've talked before about this but the one I keep seeing on 68-69 is virgin engines only show black paint on the oil fill tubes. Also would the exhaust manifold have been painted? If not that means the intake would have either been painted blue ahead of assembly or not painted blue?

DETAILS.
I've always taken a few creative liberty's with my past builds. Such as unpainted Hardware, Manifolds, Water Pumps, etc.
All to add a little pop/wow to the under hood experience However this build will be a facsimile of the early PMD photos I have on file. Once I get it all together Everything will be shot again with the Metallic Blue. Then all the little non-blue bits will be installed as well as the one year only paint detail of the fins and letters. If you looks close at the B&W photos you can see the items painted Vs the things not, as well you can see overspray on some of the hoses. But I don't think I'll go that far

Nice work! I just got my head back on today as well as the other accessories. This weekend I’ll get the cam housing and manifolds on. Hoping to drop her back in the car next week.

VALVES & VALVE SPRINGS
Dropped Head off last week and for the first time in many years this head could use both Valves & Springs.
I'm checking the normal known sources, Kanter, EGGE, Woodland and Rock but would love to hear from anyone who may have gone a different path to secure these. Cheers.

My 69 base engine is back together and dropped it in the car last night. I ended up finding NOS valves on eBay. However they are not the same as Sprint valves, same diameter but the stem is shorter. They were quite inexpensive, $85 for the intake valves and $30 for the exhaust.
Most of my valves were good but a few had some wear on the stem. Could have ground them but for the low cost of the NOS valves I figured why not.

Thanks.
I'll pass that on to my machinist. He also has a few obscure sources he is checking with. Waiting to hear back from EEGE. Their online cat has incorrect information and I want to be sure before pulling the trigger. Last resort is following Rich Mc's procedure of using custom lash caps, but that will be a very last resort.

North
With the shorter valve stems, how did you make up for the extended valve tip the OHC has? |

Hi Jeff , I read in another post that you part out a few H body station wagons. And just wonder if by any chance do you may have a complete automatic shifter for an H body Pontiac Sunbird for sale. Thanks in advance. 323 6036943

Great work! What are the part numbers for the accessory housing bearings and seals? How did you find them?
