If the motor is able to make 380 hp you will also have more torque then you know what the heck to do with if that motor with its 4.210" stroke is tuned up right!

I have almost the same motor, except I have a performer intake (yuck), cliff Q-jet, headers and 400 4x heads. I would say the hp and tq estimates provided here are very close. very mild manners until you stand on it!

I’m sorry but I can’t believe anyone would charge a guy to resize recondition stock rods. Junk junk junk! If you ever change anything in a Pontiac engine . The absolute first thing you should do is throw the rods in the garbage!!! Forget changing cranks, cams, pistons anything . If you can’t change the rods don’t bother building it is my thought. Should be Pontiac engine builder job number 1 to throw the rods in the trash can!

If I was rebuilding a stock 350 2 bbl I’d throw the rods in the trash and buy good rods .

It is nice to know that several members here think my engine should put out between 380-400 HP with major torque.

I picked up a Chevelle series 2 12 bolt rear end w/ 273 posi from a member here on the board. He pulled it out of a lemans he was parting out. I got the yoke and drive shaft as well. Not installed yet though. Picked up a THM 400 from same guy. I was told 350 tranny was a better choice for my build though because of 1st gear vs 400 1st gear. Not sure if true.

I am wondering about other members opinion on how well this combo would run.

So my engine with the original 72' THM 350, it's rebuilt with mild shift kit, 12 bolt w/273 posi, 2000 stall converter, 14" wheels.

I read on a different site that someone running same build as mine, xe268h cam, carb, rear end, etc. Twice ran a little under 13 @ 104 mph in his 70ish lemans. He didn't mention his tire size or if he was running slicks.

Could that time/speed really be possible with my set up?

As previously stated I'm more of a cruiser than a racer.......but hell who doesn't want to go fast occasionally? LoL. Thanks.

The TB350 has literally a .9% ( yes that’s point 9) better first gear the a TB400, so that’s nothing to write home about if you ask me!

Also note the Pontiac engineering never put a TB350 behind a 455, no less a 462, no less a 462 making a good amount more power then any other 455 but for a 73/74 455 SD.

If your going automatic then go with a TB400 when you get a chance.

Both transmissions need a HD Sprague behind a strong 455 not just a shift kit.

Makes total sense. Also I got the cross member for the TB 400. It's ready to install if I put the 12 bolt in. Not sure what stall converter is on the TB 400 but it's a newer one.

Lucky son of a gun !

It should reach down into high 12's
If it doesn't , a few tweaks here and there would get it done.
But you have the potential.

The 400thm is a better choice of the two with stock internals.
The 350thm has less mass and might be good for a small increase in the quarter mile.
What would you do with the 350thm if you don't use it ?
Sell it ?
Nobody will give you hardly squat for it.
I'd run it until it told me it was tired, it might outlast you and the car .
Doesn't sound like you are going to be beating on it constantly.

Congrats on the 2.73 12bolt Posi
