Default Cast iron head porter suggestions please.

I see that SD Performance no longer ports cast iron heads per their website.

So.. who would you all recommend??

I've got a set of 12s and a set of 62s that I'd like done.

Rob

Paul C at Carter Racing may be one place to check. He may or may not be porting iron heads.

Another one that was part of an engine build I got involved in is Dan Barton. He ported a set of 72 455HO heads that I had Paul C rebuild and flow test. The port work on those were excellent. Don't know if Dan is still porting iron heads these days or not.

Iron has seemed to fall out of favor with most head porters when you have a market flooded with aluminum offerings these days.

JBP ports iron heads but it looks like you buy directly with option to send in cores. Would be worth asking if they'll just perform the work on yours: https://butlerperformance.com/i-2445...tegory:1234782

Also consider Paul Knippen who posts here. He is very adept at porting cylinder heads and has a flow bench. His cell is 630-400-4441

I am thinking about a thread or post from not too long ago. Had a sheet metal intake, think car was blue and his son and new bride was in the pic.
He did do the 320cfm pair of 48s that made 871 HP. Not sure if it had any power adder but you would think it could have.

Not close to 8s. Jim is great, no need to embellish what he's done.

He did do this. 871 HP out of a stock block is pretty good.

slowbird, I am simply thinking out loud , trying to figure who has done it. It has been done, iron heads in the 8s.
Might have taken a light car, so what. The Butlers had some guy do it years ago with D ports;
Dan had a guy who could run 8.90s with his RAIVs a long time ago too.
But for some reason you want me to admit I am wrong.

Jim has been 9.39 with 96s. That a pump gas head.
8s are possible with smaller chamber, more CR and lighten the car up. Or real close to it.

You are wrong, you said Jim has ran 8s, he hasn't. I agree iron heads can go 8s, heck Marty ran 7s and so has Jim Y but that's not what you said.
Jim's 9.39 was not on pump gas and was not low compression. You need to check your "facts" better.

I also wanted to add getting good low lift flow #s 265 @500 is fairly easy with little work on the short turn. After 500 or right when ,and it will #s will fall off by 20-30.The talent of porting the d port is getting that 265 back and biting at the str to extend that to 300 or 325.I wonder if he is using or any other porter of these heads a 2.19 valve?Cast heads are tough, messy, hazardous to the lungs, kills burrs, takes time and porters don't get paid enough
