Default Blew engine in 06 GTO ?

Hey..
Son blew the engine in his 06 GTO.. Pontiac service dept says he was doing 60mph in 4th gear, car has less then 3000 miles and is a 6 speed.
Heard a rumor that the 06/6 speeds were have'n issues. Anyone hear anything about that?

LS engines are pretty tough. I haven't heard anything about the engines blowing. I've got a few friends running major boost and huge nitrous shots on stock bottom ends with no problems. If he was revving it too high shouldn't the rev limited have caught it? I bounced off my limited a couple times while doing a burnout a the track the other day.

Like Ken said, these engines are tough. 60mph in 4th gear is only about 2700rpms. Hell, I wind mine up to 60 in 2nd gear fairly often, and that's still just shy of hitting the rev limiter. The only somewhat-common issue I'm aware of with LS2s is that some consume oil much quicker than others. Maybe your son's car had this problem and it was running itself dry. Whatever the case he should get a new motor under warranty.

False. No rumor. Something happened and if one dealer doesn't help, another should. Or find out exactly what happened. How old is your boy?

"Rumor" was definitely NOT true. There are 100's of guys with Maggies, twin turbos, Nitrous, Prochargers on stock bottom-end LS2's that have not had any trouble.

BTW, when racing I shift out of SECOND gear at about 67 mph. Fourth at 60 is a non-issue.

the dealer should be able to tell if it was a mis-shift/over reving. with 3k miles the shifter would have a lot resistance when trying to go into 1st gear at that speed. that is the only gear that would hurt the motor.
