Default Trans am road race option

What was the name of the performance option that had no back seat and I believe radio and heater delete in some of the late 90's or later Firebirds /Trans Ams. Was it 1le like the camaro or was there a different code. Any info would be good. Not buying one, just talking about neat car options with people and no one remembers the name. I thought ws6, but I think that was a more common option. Thanks

Are you thinking of the Firehawk? or the B4C police option?

There were 1LE Trans Am's built, but oddly you could still get A/C with them.

I knew the Firehawk was made by SLP. I was thinking a factory made option. What was the B4C option? Maybe 1LE was it, I just thought it was something else.

Bird 1LE's used the same parts as the Camaros but all of those cars had back seats, had a radio and a heater. 1LE first appeared in 1988 and was automatically triggered when you ordered the G80, G92, J65, KC4 1SB & A/C delete. Was only available with the LB9/MM5 or the L98/Auto combinations. It is believed only 4 Camaros were built in 1988 and possibly 3 TA's. In later years it became it's own option code and A/C cars were allowed as well.

B4C was the police pursuit package, and included all of the 1LE parts, but also A/C (for the officer's comfort). I'm not sure if the B4C was limited to Camaros or if there were birds too - also not sure what year it started.

Did they make a T/A that did not have a rear seat. I seem to remember seeing one on a dealer lot, Not sure what year though. Mid to late 90's I think. Maybe it was just a A/C delete. Wow I seem to of forgotten most of the 90's.

The 91/92 models were special - some more special than others.

They made a TA with the notch back rear hatch - is that what you are thinking of?

I don't believe they ever made a production model TA without a back seat.

Milt Robson had a 92 Firehawk convert built that featured in HPP in 97 that had a $9,995 Competition Option.
It included Brembo brakes, Recaro seat/seats, 5 point harness, lightweight aluminium hood and the rear seat delete.

I think that was an SLP option?
Did he still own it when the auction took place? I don't recall seeing it listed.

He's keeping that car, it's in Florida. It is the only 91/92 Hawk convertible built.

At the 1995 Norwalk Ames Tri-Power event, Jim Mattison had a special Firebird that was equipped with no rear seat and other weight saving options. Pontiac Engineering had built this one-off vehicle and it was known as "mongoose" (as in snake or Cobra killer). Hope this helps!

The '98-99 1le (ls1) was a 12 second car bone stock. It had manual windows and cloth interior and I believe it was the only way you could get a v8 bird without a/c, though you could also get it with it. It was nice because after the option deletes, the ws6 package and other stuff was basically free so it cost around the same as a base formula. In 2001 you could get a firehawk 1le. The 1le's also had aluminum driveshaft, upgraded brakes and some other small stuff. The firehawk 1le would be the one to have, I've only ever seen one other formula firehawk (and I would have bought it if it wasn't an auto), most were based on the t/a. The formula with less body cladding and smaller rear spoiler looks very sleek and not as obnoxious as the t/a.

Good luck finding one, production numbers were really low.

Not at the factory - convertible didn't appear in the F-3 lineup until 1987.

ASC did the Conversions'87 and up and some "factory" work too.
pre 87 'verts were by a couple different folks, one had a hard tonneau where the back seat was.. I saw a pic of it years ago. A one off project.
All ASC cars have a big ASC sticker on the DS door.
Have owned a few.
