Default 69 Firebird Trunk Release Button Location

Can someone with an original remote trunk release take a picture of the button location in the glove box for me?

Thanks in advance.

Factory install from an early non AC (I mention it because AC cars had a different glove box) Lordstown car. This car has the 69 Pontiac style black rod button but I believe some 69 birds (later and or different plants) had the Chevy style yellow flush button.

Thanks North.

For some reason I thought it was on the left side, not the top.

Correct '69 button is the "tall bubble" black button.

yellow flat style buttons did not appear til mid '74 models

Side mount was the Abodies. F and B bodies on top. G body was in the front of the console bin, used the same pin button but instead of the bright metal nut they used a deep black plastic bezel to prevent accidental activation. I wish they used those deep bezels on cars with 8 track players, when you have a bunch of 8 tracks in the glove box you’re often accidentally popping the trunk.

If you’re adding a power trunk here is a little tip for correctness; when they installed a power trunk at the factory they adjusted the trunk lid tensioners differently. Regular adjustment was that the trunklid would pop open fully on its own (because you were holding it and would prevent it slapping up hard) but with trunk release it opens only an inch or two on its own.

This was accomplished by setting the tension rod on the left side one notch lower. The trunk will still stay open but it needs to be lifted open initially.

No, not adding. My car already has everything for the deck lid release from the factory except the glove box insert was missing. PHS also shows it as having code 492.

Here's something interesting that I found. This is from the 1969 Pontiac Accessories Catalog and it shows a picture of the deck lid release button in the glove box and the button is white.

Probably air brushed to make it visible in the photo.

Buick used the same shape button in those years but it was red. In 70 Pontiac switched to an aqua colored flat door bell type button.

The first gen Firebirds used a mix of Chevy and Pontiac accessories. Seems like in 69 they used more Pontiac gear (like the power top switch) since they finally had a unique Pontiac dashboard.

For example the 69’s use the Chevy Camaro spec trunk light (mercury switch and mounted in the lid instead of the typical Pontiac hinge mounted light) but the under hood light was unique to 69 Firebird, still a mercury switch but a reverse design and a different power supply.

Another example is the radios, unlike 67-68 that used Chevy radios the 69 used a Pontiac radio design including knobs etc but still used the Chevy speaker systems (like the 4 speaker set up with an 8 track and/or stereo radio).
