Refurbishing a scratched & scuffed clock lens for my 69 Bird...
I've purchased a 69 FB clock to put back in my dash. It's got some light scuffs and scratches on it.
What procedure or product can I buy to help me buff those out? TIA Jim aka ScumOne |

If you can feel them with your finger nail they are likely too deep. Othewise what works for me is, 2 or 3 applications of Meguiars Fine Cut Cleaner using a yellow, blue, or white microfiber towel. Follow that with a couple applications of Meguiars #3 Machine Glaze with the same towel a couple times. It will look like new. There are probably a hundred other ways, but that is a rare lens and you need to be careful. I always have these polishes on hand for paint work, so I utilize them.

For anything lexan like you can use pledge or plexus which is what we use on airplanes for fine scratching.
Sometimes if it’s too deep you’d have to wet sand it out and then keep moving up w compound and water mist (so it doesn’t burn) til It’s clear. I’ve had to do with with airplane windshields people scratched. There’s also a product for lexan headlights that guys use now instead that’s a wipe on deal but I haven’t used it yet.

I've always used a plastic polish. If the scratches are deep and don't come out, use rubbing compound.

If you have some metal polish on hand, like Flitz or Simichrome, it will work as well.

Thank you for all the replies! I'll go figure out what I've got in my current pile in the garage besides rubbing compound, and see what else is available locally.

I’ve done lots of those quartz kits. Very easy job but the key is pushing really hard on washers when reassembling. They recommend using a small piece of 2x4 in it for the power stud to sit steady and level as you press the three washers onto the studs. I tried without this a few times but now use a wood base as they recommend. Not installing those washers tight enough leads to the adjustment knob not engaging properly
Another good point to obey religiously is to always install the hour and minute hands at exactly 12. If not you likely end of with the hour hand half way between to numbers when the minute hand as at 12. Last tip, 69 clocks use the red gears in the kit and the kit number is I-3035 from ISI

I usually let it run overnight and test it with a little tapping to make sure the internal ground (the spring copper forked strip the gets ground from the housing) has good contact through the painted housing.
Talking ground it is really important that the ground strap that connects the clock assembly to the rest of the dash bezel is solid at both ends. The 69 dashboards across the 69 Pontiac lines are inherently poorly ground. Coincidentally today I used the exact same clock kit on a Catalina im working on (B and F bodies use the same kit, the A and G cars share a different kit).

Five hours in and still keeping perfect time, I compared it to my FitBit and my iPhone. Fingers crossed that it keeps this up till the morning. Again, thanks for all of the help with this!

I have a box full of clocks and those kits, I counted to empty boxes and this one was the 17th so I’ve gotten the back of this. I have a car I did the clock conversion in 1993 and it still works perfect!

16 hours later and it's still right on time. Glad I could get this dialed in. Now I can install my new gauge package from New Vintage USA along with the rebuilt clock and be "almost correct".
I'm going to have Pete Serio fix up my Trans Am stacked gauge package with all new calibrated senders, rebuilt gauges, the original wiring diagram and instructions with pictures and put it up for sale when it's refurbished.
