Default 69 GTO convertible

I have a 69 convertible that I want to have repainted. Is there a difference in the hardtop versus convertible quarter panels? One body shop wants to replace the quarter panels but If theres a big difference is it a waste of time due to the difference in the panels? Is it better to use the panel skins instead of the full quarters? My car was painted in 1988 with AZ quarters and lap welded not butt welded. All the body shops want to but weld the quarters to eliminate rust potential. Thoughts? If replacing the quarters is the easiest what brand do you recommend? Thanks for the help.

Yes the quarters are different. Generally on verts people try to just use the lower part of the panel and keep the top portion.

DON'T CUT THE TOPS they don't make them, only skins.Ask me how I know.I learned the hard way.Do not cut anything off until you have the part. They make them for hardtops not convertibles. Good luck with the build.

Butt welding as opposed to lap welding isn't a bad idea as long as they have the skills.
