Default '65 Paint Code Question

I manage the '65 convertible GTO registry for cars that left the factory with 4spds/tripower combination. Just got a new member that has found a car in original paint, with a "&" for body color on the cowl tag.

Has anyone seen this before and do you know what it means?

Seems like I remember something like this, but not sure if I'm remembering correctly.

They had special paints, but they used different symbols for if a GM paint code, or if not a GM paint code. Also for special Pontiac paint codes. (like Tiger Gold had no letter, maybe a dash?)

BTW, the 95991 may be the paint code for the color?

I'll have to see if I can find the info later.

Looking at cowl tag closer, it looks like the & was stamped over a '2' which was for a special paint. Maybe they had a memo to use the & for a specific paint?
What color is the car?

Car is silver. I don't have a photo yet, because it is currently buried deep in a storage facility. New owner is going to pull it out in a couple of weeks.

It turns out that the number 95991 was the paint code. It is a silver/gray named Grigio Argento Metallic made by DuPont. It is Italian for metallic silver/gray and was used in Italy for Fiat and Ferrari cars. The original selling dealership sold both Pontiacs and Fiats.

Since the car had an A for the original paint code...I am guessing that it was originally destined to be black and was for general inventory. Somewhere in production, it got tagged with the special order and the data plate was restamped to show the special paint code. The "&" may have just been an arbitrary symbol to block the A.
