That is pretty much exactly what I have in mind, only I was going to put two or three tacks with the MIG to secure it back in place instead of screws. I also envisioned a square cut instead of oval, but maybe I should rethink that part.

The metal is pretty stiff in that area and somewhat of a compound curve which makes it even more resistant to movement. What I'm getting at is that you probably wouldn't need but one spot weld, right where my screw is, then fill the seam with your choice of material.

Job done. As far as hack jobs go, I’m pretty proud of this one. Ignore the first set of lines. Luckily I realized they were wrong before I started cutting.

The jig saw was definitely the way to go. Left very small lines. I did do exactly what I was trying to avoid and had to make an extra cut. You really need to go higher than you think because you have to put it in at an angle.

But I got it up there. Checked it’s function to make sure it’s working. And pushed my two little flaps back together. Unhooked the battery. Pulled over the mig and threw in 7 little tack welds then ground them flat.

Only thing left is to seam seal it. Honestly save for the line at the top on one place I think I could just put some of that Bedliner coating spray in here. I’ll bet it’s course enough to cover the gaps. Would blend in and look pretty correct.

Whole thing took me maybe an hour. A lot of that was spent trying to maneuver it in without making that second small cut before I gave up.

The line finished so clean I could easily stitch the whole thing back together again in an hour if it was off the car.

Not that hard to unbolt the bottom rear of the fender along with the fender to inner fender bolts. When lower fender bolts are removed, keep track of how many shims.
