Welding galvanized steel is difficult due to environmental concerns.

And it will make you sick as a dog from doing it. If I weld anything that is galvanized I grind the area where I'm working free of any galvanizing, seen too many friends get sick when using water pipe, and building roll bars.

These cars were cheap and never designed to last 50 years. How many Toyotas and Datsun's do you see from the early 70's that are rust free??

Very true. Luckily, anything can be fixed to better-than-new if you have the lettuce.

For some odd reason I think the 70-74's rust the worst. That goes for any GM product.

For the right price I would buy that car. It would have to be about 30% of value though. I think I would clean, pull the int and replace or repair, do a once over on the motor and drive it like H&&*&&. If it starts rusting in a few years now biggie.

It'll be interesting to see what they ask for the car after they get done with it. Those guys have got some pretty quick FAST cars.

That is the Pennington's who own the 2 fastest cars in the FAST race (Corvette, 69 Camaro). They should build that car for the Pure stock class in that race.

Another great quote from that video,...."that interior will clean up real nice!", as they take a pressure washer to it. So many grimace-worthy scenes (and attitudes) there. Sad at so many levels. Sad that the original owners couldn't get to it in time to save it.
BTW, just curious, anyone know roughly how much they paid for this one at auction? |

I don't know, but it seems like what most people are saying here is that it would take extraordinary measures to try and save that car, and it still might not be enough. That being the case, why not try to have some fun with it before it succumbs to the forces of nature?

To Prevent ANY rust, a full spray down with Hold tight 102 must be done. This sprayed in everywhere WILL stop any salts. Will take 5 gallons to do this job. Cavity wax or wool wax after would seal it up nicely.

Car rusting in the Garage? I have seen this. One I saw is a '68 get pretty rusty in a buddies garage. Why?
I dug most of the foundation for this garage when we built it. and it was WET ledge mostly. Had to get a small excavator to finish one corner. After the foundation was poured and walls went up, I leveled and back dragged inside. he also compacted it and had it poured the same summer. In the summer the floor SWEATS in some places. put hand on it and its wet. Add some heat and that water evaporates and goes Under his car and is trapped, where those valence Oxygen molecules go to work on the Iron ( FE02) Since then I look for dark spots and have seen many like this in New England. Guys with lefts have much less problems with this, but its still humid.

That said, I'm enjoying watching the car brought back to life and reuse, and I agree, it would be neat to build it for the pure stock drags. Dennis |

It's also too bad how they move these cars around with the forks and can cause additional damage. I understand that's the quickest way but it's still cringey to watch it...especially after you've already paid for the car. Smashed exhaust, bent driveshafts, broken valances. 23,000 doesn't sound bad for that car.
