Default Three More Restored Tripowers

Here is a picture of three sets of Tripower carbs I shipped 2/6---a 1957, 1964, & 1966 setup.

The '57 setup was the most difficult to find parts for. I did manage to find correct '57 parts for all three carbs, thanks to some members of this board. Note that I put mechanical linkage in place of the vacuum setup. The throttle return springs in '57 were much different than later setups, with extension springs closing the end carbs.

The '64 setup is for a '64 GTO with a relatively sock engine, but equipped with a mild hydraulic cam. I modified the idle circuit to suit and installed .070" jets in the end carbs with .062" in the center.

The '66 setup is for a 461 c.i. Pontiac engine with a mild hydraulic roller cam. These were also modified to suit the cam--larger brass idle tubes, idle bypass restrictors, less power valve spring pressure, and larger holes in the throttle base. The end carbs are jetted to .073" and the center jets at .062".

I'm really pleased with the quality of work done by the guy who dichromates the carb bodies. I media blast them to clean and he colors them to match a sample airhorn I keep just for that purpose.

I will be happy to restore your '65 carbs anytime after March 8. I can get them done and on the way back to you within 2 wk. after I receive them. I will need to know engine parameters--c.i., cam, compression, etc.

They look nice.

Many correct parts for the 1957 seemingly are made out of unobtanium!

The last one I did, I had to machine new fuel fittings; as simply could not find correct ones. I can't think of another application that has a fitting even close. The vacuum diaphragm is unique as well. The throttle return springs can be fabricated easily from a stock spring which is carried by NAPA.

Thanks for the compliment, Jon!

I had some pretty rough airhorns, but got some really nice ones from Mike Wasson and Tim Benko. I found the perfect return springs at a True Value Hardware store! The passenger side levers were on eBay. I used Tim Benko's fuel lines, which are 5/16" instead of the factory front-to center 3/8" line and the "unobtanium" fitting for the center carb with both 3/8" and 5/16" inverted flare females.

The customer had a '57 manifold with adaptors for three large Rochesters on the car! It's hard to believe someone would do that, but I'm sure you've seen some weird stuff, too!!

Take care,
Dick Boneske

Nice work.
Can you get Q-jets recolored (by the same person) as well? Send me a PM if so.

Yes, he has done Quadrajets for me. The color is more on the green side with less gold.

Hi Dick,
I have .064 center jets on my 421 (bored .030" over with 9.3:1 comp) with .073 on the ends. The circuits were opened up as well, power valve spring was cut etc...
Its on my 1966 TriPower.
Based off of what center jets you installed on the 461, should I go down to a .062 or less?
Cam is a Wolverine 1096- 224/234 Duration - 112LC
Thanks,
Don S

Don, If your center carb is the stock '66 Tripower one with the "575" float bowl, I'd go to .062 or .063" center jets. If it's a larger-Venturi carb, stick with .064".
