Fit nice. A little rumble in the car. Around the car is fine. Really loud in back. Gonna shorten the tailpipes and put dropdowns right at the rear valence as soon as I find some. Should help. Sounds like a Pro Stock car when you get on it!

Very nice! Is the oil filter as hard to get at as it looks?

Not at all. The pic is a bit deceiving. That's the stock-style filter, and there's more room with the Doug's than with the old headers I had. I could easilly fit one of the bigger HP2s in there. Spin off the filter, and pull it right out.

With the old headers on the 350, I had to spin off the filter, sit it down on the header tube, grab it and tilt it sideways to get it out. Of course at that point I'll end up with oil everywhere.

Your set up looks great. Any regrets? I was thinking of going with the same, but questioning if I should go with the Hooker super comps in ceramic. Are the Dougs you have ceramic coated? Tell me more about the sound, like on the highway aroung 3grand.

Regrets? Not really. Just a little noisy, but I was expecting that. Something to get used to, especially the neighbors. I just make sure I'm cool around the neighborhood. I'm looking for a pair of chrome 3" turndowns for the tailpipes. That should calm some of the noise the neighbors hear a little.

The noise is at it's worst at an idle, but I've got a pretty gnarly cam in it, and I'm waiting for my adjustable vacuum advance to show up, so I'm idling with no vac advance, and that makes matters worse when the motor starts to lope. At 3 grand like on the freeway, it's not loud at all. A nice purr inside the car, kinda like my old turbo mufflers. But I bet it's loud as hell behind me for sure!

The Doug's headers I have are the zinc(?) coated. They blued pretty badly, but whatever. The set Jack Blum and I put on his 462 '71 Grand Safari "Wagon from Hell" were chromed. Pretty nice. They blued a little too.

All in all, I'm really happy with the PY/Pypes/Goerlich kit. The hangars that come with the 3" kit leave something to be desired, but are more are less useable. I love coming up next to the ricers with the 3" party-favor tailpipe on the back, and showing 'em what a 3" exhaust should sound like.

As for the Super Comps - never again. We used them on the '68 EFI car. We were told the A/C could still be used. Yeah sure, AFTER getting the Vintage Air setup. The header absolutely will not clear the A/C suitcase. They also hang lower than the Doug's Headers. The Doug's are definitely worth the money.

I'm running an exhaust setup very similar (if not identical) to PMDRacer's and am also pleased with this combo. There are pics and a vid/sound clip of mine on the Pype's Customer Page.

The coating on my Doug's D-port headers (purchased during spring/summer of '02) is the nickel finish that was standard at that time. They cured to a kind of tan color with some blueing, but still look nice. The headers and the entire Pypes system fit very well. I'm very pleased.

Something I forgot -
IMHO, the best way ot get the system to tuck correctly is instead of using premade collector reducers against the headers, I got the 3" pipe extensions that are needed and just the collector flanges with a 3" center hole. I put the 'X', the front and rear curved pieces, and the front extensions together, tack welded the whole shootin' match, and then put it up under the car with the whole system at the wanted hieght and angle, then tacked the extensions to the collector flanges.
This way, you are not hampered with whatever direction the premade collectors point the pipes.

Getting rid of the muffler clamps also makes things a bit cleaner. It's ALOT of welding, but hell, I get a kick out of welding stuff. Maybe I just need to get out some more.
