Default Two '64 Tripower Carb Sets "Before" Restoration.

Here are two sets of carbs I'm restoring this week. Thought you may be interested to see how these 50+ year-old carbs can be brought back to life.

The first set has both the center carb throttle lever and the rear carb throttle lever loose. I'm usually able to re-swage the shaft to tighten these without drilling/tapping and putting a screw in. The rear carb fuel inlet threads are stretched and will require a thread insert.

The second set front carb needs a replacement airhorn. That carb also has a broken brass vacuum fitting in the base, which can be fixed by drilling/tapping and putting a close nipple in place of the broken one. The center and rear carb on that setup have twisted off/broken off air cleaner studs in the airhorn webs which will need to be drilled out and re-tapped.

I'll post the "after" pictures when the setups are ready to ship.

Here's one of the setups after restoration. The carbs were the rough-looking ones in the previous post. They are sitting on a spare '64 intake I use for tweaking fuel lines and presetting linkage before shipping the carbs back to the owners.

This setup has the 9777061 linkage introduced in '64 as you can see from the pictures. There was a big Pontiac version and a GTO version. As you can see, this is the GTO version with the provision for the yellow throttle return spring.

Here's the second set finished. These are for a '65 GTO. It's a pleasure restoring carbs like these that were not corroded or damaged in their 50+ years of life!

They're sitting on a '64 manifold I use for fitting fuel lines & adjusting linkage.

Geez, those are beautiful. They look more like fine jewellery than they do something that gets bolted to the top of an engine.

Nice to see that quality work still exists. Nice job!

Thank you. I am lucky to have a source for the zinc dichromate process to color the carb bodies. I've been restoring Tripowers since 1981. Believe me, the first few years' results weren't anything like what I am able to do today. It's very satisfying to complete the restoration of these setups and hear back from the owners how the Tripower performs and looks after they get their carbs back.

We have a great group of people on this board that are willing and able to help with any issue you may have with restoring or maintaining your old Pontiac. I only wish we had an option like this with our computers, appliances, building maintenance, etc. where we could get knowledgeable help on issues.

2-3 weeks after I get the carbs in my shop. I usually do the zinc dichromate with at least 9 carbs at once.
