Smile My story of a Lost 1974 SD TA 4SPD.

Back in 1973 Jeff Stoner,Monroeville, Pa.ordered a 1973 SD TA. From what he told me. He did not get the car. So he got a 1974 SD TA TA 4spd in red. He got the car early 1974,(like Sept-not exactly sure of date). Anyway I saw his car late 1973. Also Phil Cralle ordered his blue SD fall 1973. Mine was ordered Nov 1973. We kind of ran around together at times. We had one picture of all 3 SDs in Jim Millers(guy that built RA V and 303 Pontiacs) driveway. I cant find that picture. Anyway Jeff worked on his SD engine. Then later something happened. He separated engine from car. The SD engine ,sold went into a dirt track firebird. Picture in old HO newsletter The TA had another engine installed. Sold for a new GMC truck. After a time the SD engine(vin matched csr) was blown up dirt car retired. I found out and bought the block.other parts were gone. This was geez many many years ago. I located the TA down south tried to buy it nope. About 15 yrs ago I get a call from a guy named Joe. He accused me of trying to steal his SD TA as his vin number was listed under my name in the SD registry. He was even thinking of getting police involved. I said that's not true. After discussion he calmed down, including my vin. Then he said I'm looking for the SD block that was in his car. So he explained the car and owner,Jeff Stoner. I said I have the block in the basement! YOU WHAT he said. Yep. Here's the vin. I call you back he said. He called back what do you want for the block? I said another SD block he said ok.I sure wanted that red 4spd TA.

Poncho-Mike had a guy threaten to sue him over the original block to a car .
Said he was rightful owner since he owned the car now.

Mike was initially willing to sell it , guy didn't want to pay.

The SD was ordered somewhere else. I believe the truck was ordered at Cochran with the TA traded in there. That's what I remember. Mine and Phil's were ordered at Constantin Pontiac.

Yes, the guy was a real a-hole. I had the complete WS minus carb/distributor out of a 1970 T/A that the previous owner converted to big block Chebby power. The new owner went as far as paying a lawyer to send me threatening letters.

I made sure he never got the motor.

Now for the rest of the story. Joe as of 2023 restored the TA.he sent me pics not sure if engine is back in car yet. Anyway about after I told Joe about the block he wanted it so he said him as his buddy Don would come to my home

to get it. One fall night just at dusk he shows up with truck and trailer with a 1974 white TA on the back. We say hello here's your car! What! I said,I just wanted a block. Very rusty 74 SD TA,non air car.original automatic but owner had Chicago area dealer(they sponsored Arnies later 64 GTO)pit in 4spd. Trans was missing but engine was there, std bore ,heads and intake. Now what! I gave up nos SD exhaust system, nos SD distributor gear, slightly used Hedman SD headers from Jeff Stoners SD. I had the white car in the garage thinking on restoring.the wife supported my decision. I had picked up a 1974 TA western body shell floors excellent. After her passing (I realized I couldnt restore car so it sat)I was sitting in stands at Tri Power weekend on
Sunday,Don called me and made me an offer I couldnt refuse on the whiteSD.I still have the 74 shell. Now you know the rest of the story.
