Default 69 GTO starting circuit

I bought a new engine harness for my GTO and I didn't realize I could get it with an HEI wire. So I decided to just run one into the car, Usually I tap it into the pink wire but on this ignition switch there's no wire that is hot cranking and in the on position. So I connected to the one terminal in the middle of the fuse box that had power cranking and key on. It still would not start, I have 12 volts at the power wire in the on position (coil cover off) then as soon as I crank it the voltage drops to 7.5. So where are you guys connecting your HEI's to in a 69 GTO?
