If using the 76 TA alternator setup, the 48 head is missing a bolt hole I think.
But it is usually an easy 'fix' or remedy.

John is correct, the earlier heads are missing one bolt hole. I ran into this when putting 1971, 197 HO heads on a 73 455 T/A with the 80 amp alternator that has the idler pulley on the right/passenger side head. If memory serves me it uses 3 bolts to hold the idler on, but it worked for years with only 2 bolts.
I think if you have the standard 76 alternator, you'll be fine. Just the non adjustable large optional 80 amp alternator idler (heated rear glass) needs that other hole for the idler/adjuster pulley to mount to. This is all from memory Tom, and 1980 since I did it, so 41 years ago , but I believe it's accurate information. |
