Default Retro Sound Long Beach Radio

anyone use one of these retro sound radios? good?

going with this one because you can change the digital display color. want it to match my blue backlight speedhut gauges.

the knobs took me back to my sisters chevy vega in high school.

mines a 72 firebird, will the stock 78-81 single large opening radio faceplate fit?

the 70-77 stock faceplate has the 2 opening cover, I would have to cut the faceplate open for that it appears. I didnt realize the 2 different radio openings for the dash. thought 70-81 all the same.

Mine looks like the one you pictured. Lots of features... Performance is ok at best. I did manage to use my factory knobs.

I'm looking at the Hermosa also. There tech people have been very helpful, but like it was said earlier the choice of faceplates for the 71 LeMans is not good. I have been thinking about talking to my Brother in Law about 3D printing one for my car.

Just installed one in my 1976 Firebird a couple of hours ago. I don't have it wired up yet but it and all of the speakers are installed. Yes the 1970-1977 had the 2 openings. It looks fairly stock. I got the chrome knobs. They are a little different than stock and the stock knobs don't quite fit. I may modify them to fit. I am hoping to finish the wiring tomorrow and try it out.

I talked to my Brother in Law yesterday, he says he can definitely 3D print a faceplate for my LeMans to make it look a bit more factory. He just needs pics and measurements. Looks like that will be todays car project. I think I would like to get the radio here first to get perfect dimensions for the surround and faceplate. The site has a lot of good info but just having the thing in hand makes me feel better.

I wired it in today. It works awesome. I definitely like it. I am not sure what color I want to have the display.

mine has a hole cut in it for a Pioneer Supertuner. I am afraid the hole is a bad shape for the Hermosa and the optional chrome bezel is not going to cover the mess I made years ago. Glad to hear you all like the radio, I am ordering mine today along with a set of the kick panel speaker enclosures. I think I am going to order the enclosures for an air car even though my car is a non air car. I am going to lose the use of the vents anyway, might as well make it a nice clean install.

I don't know if they changed the brackets any since your install, but put mine in today and only 2 extremely minor mods required for a perfect factory bezel fit. really only one minor mod because the instructions tell you to notch/bend whatever to the brackets as required.

the back of the factory bezel (70-77) has a bevel raised ridge on the back side. I sanded/ground that bevel down flush with the rest of the bezel so the retro sound will butt right up flush. (pics)

then i simply had to open up the bracket slightly at the top for best up/down centering of the stereo unit.

done. thats it. perfect fit. not powered up yet.

Default Installed long beach, 70-77 Firebird

Installed pics yeha

hopefully will help someone if they go this route

the unit is very small. so easy to handle, I could move it back and slide it in place from the drivers seat.

I wondered how they state 70-81 firebird. the unit comes with 2 bezels of whatever finish you choose. one for 70-77, one for 78-81.

I love the 70's radio knobs I went with. so funny how things take you back to a fun time. these knobs were on my older sisters chevy vega GT. she loved that car. my dad had the engine rebuilt with steel sleeves.

I did not do anything to modify mine. It went in perfect. If I can figure out how to post pictures, I will. My original radio had different knobs than those black ones. Mine were chrome with the center that was black. I am either going to paint my new knobs to match or modify my old knobs to work.

I have RetroSound units in 2 other vehicles. I think they are a good quality unit.
They are even better if you use a power amp.

I'd like to get one for my '69 GTO project but it bothers me that they don't have stock looking knobs for it. They did have stock looking knobs for my other vehicles.

Its very easy to install an input jack to the stock AM radio. Then run your I-Pod.. That's what I have and it sounds so much better then any of the after market radios I've ever owned..

Take the top of the radio off clip the blue wire and solder two 1K resisters on to it then run the mini jack wire to each resisters then ground the cable to the cabinet..

All Retrosound radios are designed not to need the dash cut.
