Default 1964 GTO Tripower Heater control valve question

I have a 1964 GTO Tripower with AC. The heater control valve is located just above the intake manifold where an "L" shaped pipe on the intake is usually located for the heater hose. Instead, It has a large, funky brass fitting then a 3" piece of heater hose connected to the heater control valve, with the remainder of the heater hose going back to the heater core. I know this can't be correct and sticks up almost as high as the air cleaners. Can someone please post some pic's of how this should be set up to be correct?

Thank you,

Tom

I don't think the '64 had a heater control valve. I'd remove it.
