Default Power antenna

I have an early production 65 Lemans with a lot of options. It has a power antenna coming out at an angle on the RR between the trunk and the quarter panel, factory with the factory switch on the dash.

I can hear the motor running with the switch on up or down, but no movement on the mast. I can pull the antenna up and down only a few inches. I expect I need the nylon insert that goes inside to move the mast.
Or maybe a gear ?

I haven't been able to find any parts, so hoping I can fix the original.

If you run the switch and hear a clicking in the motor, sounds like the nylon is frozen. Most likely you'll have to replace the mast w/nylon. There are not easy to find and expensive when you do.

There is a guy in the Tampa Bay Area. I believe he refurbishes them. I bought one from him. It was excellent. He might be able to do something for yours. His name is Frank and he is a member here. I can’t remember his user name. You can PM me if you would like his contact info.

No clicking sound, just the motor running. Up or down just the motor running.

Default Power Antenna

I believe the part number for the correct mast for an A body is 541963. A lot of people run the longer B body masts because they’re a little easier to come by Eric

Can you tell me the proper extended height for the 65 GTO? I have a power antenna installed and when it extends it is taller than I expected.

I can look for the part number on the antenna body.

Thanks!

The OEM electric antenna on a 1965 GTO extends 54’’.

Careful going under low bridges.

That's got to be it then. I was very surprised when it kept going and going! Thanks.

Yeah he knows his stuff for antennas. I bought my rebuilt 66 power antenna from him a few years ago and it's still working.

His number is 352-688-8199.
