I'm going to go out on a limb and say the way the storage problem will be solved is by coating the inside of hydrogen storage tanks with a catalyst material that combines with hydrogen to produce a larger atom which then cannot escape from the exterior shell of the tank. Do it just right and the slightly larger atoms plug the "holes" in the tanks exterior material leaving no escape path for the hydrogen.
That's the simplified version for people that are not rocket scientists like me |

Hmmm ... tank full of pressurized hydrogen in a hypercar. What could possibly go wrong?

If an economical method is developed to produce hydrogen and if a storage container is developed that retains hydrogen, it will be the fuel of the future. The only product of combustion is water--no pollution.
Bot, the key is how hydrogen will be produced in an economical, environmentally-friendly method. I've always believed that hydrogen power would be the fuel of the future. If it is liquified, it may be a fuel for airplanes as well as land vehicles.

I've wondered how that will be dealt with in locations where the temperature drops below freezing...a bunch of cars with water dripping out of their tailpipes on the road when it's 20 below could be a problem.
