Good stuff here. Started off pretty basic with mine. Then decided to over-engineer it with lower shelf & center
support in case of 5-ton weight. Now, about those stairs

Yours is by far the nicest Bob, high marks for building your own cabinets!

Dan Jensen's shop has a nice setup with U shaped workstations surrounding each of the two bays he has that he works in. The bays are two cars deep with plenty of work room around them and the tables that surround them are large so that project parts can be spread out in an organized fashion. I hope to set up something like that when I finally get going.

I'm going the used cabinet route myself and have been storing some that Jeremy gave me for years, just waiting for a concrete slab to finally appear. I've got several counter-tops that have been replaced over the years that I'll use as well. Would like to have a stainless top on at least one section for those oily, messy jobs. Of course TV & Stereo out there as well. Hopefully I'll be working on all of this in the next couple of months.

I was looking for something else and came across this old thread...

Bumping back up to the top!

I haven't done much more to my shop inside, but I did go around the house and install new outdoor lighting.

The back garage benefited from that as well -

End of 2020 we moved into our new house and it came with a (for me) large (820 sq ft) workshop.
I added 15 led TL beams overhead for light and made myself a nice workbench. Which has an additional 3 led TLs to provide light. It's just over 15 foot long and 2 foot deep.

Mine's been busy doing something now for 30 plus years. This was mid project doing Lord knows what.

Unfortunately, I literally have no room in the tiny garage of our new house for a dedicated workspace. Just enough room for the cars, my rollaway tool cabinets and a little storage. I could move the one rack storage to an overhead unit, but have reservations about anything above the cars. Read about some lag bolts breaking...can't risk it.

So...was thinking about this type of foldable work station. Folds flat against the wall and 100lb capacity. Anyone have one of these and can comment??

That Michelin man is cool that is hanging out by the ceiling, metal or plastic. What is the bat for on the brick self defense lol

That would be misappropriation of company property.

A folding workbench can be pretty straightforward to build, I made one when I had a tiny garage years ago. The work surface was mounted to the wall with a couple strap hinges. There were two detachable legs made from 2x4s, they would brace against where the wall and floor intersected when the bench top was up. I made the work surface from 2x4s, but a piece of plywood would work as well.

I've also seen them designed so the bench top folded up against the wall instead of down, if built that way the legs can also be installed with hinges so they drop down to the floor to support the top. You can find plans online for either type.

There are also fabricated top supports similar to what that bench from Jeg's has that are available from various suppliers, here's one example: https://www.woodcraft.com/products/w...kets-woodriver

Not a workbench but I had a carpenter build these shelves in my basement to store heads and cranks. Climate controlled.

I hear ya...in a normal situation, I would probably build my own.

With the current demands of work, medical appointments for myself and wheelchair-bound mother and other life stuff, my time is very limited. I'm thinking that that $150 for the Jegs unit will outweigh the time/cost to research plans, source parts, build (and inevitable aggravation).

Hitting the easy button these days...

I have this in my car trailer, mounts easy, can be removed easy, sturdy and really easy to clean.
Don't know about beating on it with a hammer and I have never had anything of real weight on it for testing weight capacity.
Folds tight to the wall about 2-3" thick if I remember right.
Bob,

The Michelin man is my girlfriends, she had it forever in a shed. Now that I have a decent place I figured let's put it on the wall. It's plastic and there a bit broken off on it. One day I'll put a light in it but for now I'm using my spare time for working on the Gto.

The bat I have had since high school, yes I used to keep it as self defence item in the house, we just have different gun laws here so that makes for what appear to be odd choices sometimes (hence the bat)..

Speaking of the Michelin Man, a co-worker gave me this bobble-head about 15 years ago.

Kinda cute...

That is pretty cool. Does anyone here know what his actual name is? (without googling it)
